For the avid CRITERION/Akira Kurosawa collector... - Blu-ray Forum

wasnt sure where I would be able to find a complete list as there are way too many threads to sift through, but can somebody please list JUST the Akira Kurosawa movies that have been released on BR thus far. preferably Region 1 releases, but other Regions will do also (please mention the country on the side), even those that are OOP.

So far only Kagemusha has been released by Criterion. There is a non-Criterion Kurosawa box set available for import from Japan that has Ran, Madadayo, The Quiet Duel (Shizukanaru Ketto) and Rashomon. Unfortunately, the box set doesn't have English subtitles, but if anyone's interested, drop me a PM--mine's available for purchase.

Ya, but all the Japanese releases don't include English subs. The only downside to an otherwise amazing list of movies. I too eagerly await, and am hopeful for a Kurosawa box set on blu released by Criterion.

Plus, you have "Ran" already released by Studio Canal in a couple of countries with an American release on its way.

Criterion also has "Yojimbo" and "Sanjuro" scheduled for a March 2010 release.

And Warner still owns "Dreams", which hasn't been announced for Blu, but seems to be a regular when they want to feature their Famous Foreign Films--

Seven Samurai is coming in 2010 from Criterion, from a different master than the Japanese release.
