Default SHOCK (Mario Bava, 1977) -- Arrow Video, 2022

From my Cinema Arcana page:

“A new look at the face of evil!” After years of requests, Mario Bava’s final feature SHOCK (1977) sees its overdue Blu debut in 2022, courtesy of Arrow Video!

Widowed Dora (Argento muse Daria Nicolodi) is moving on with life, recently remarrying to busy pilot Bruno (Eurocult regular John Steiner). With young son Marco in tow they move back to her old home – the house she occupied during her previous husband’s apparent suicide, an act that sent her spiraling into a nervous breakdown. Alone with her son for long stretches as her husband works, she’s beset by strange occurrences and a marked change in Marco’s behavior – but is it all for real, or just in her imagination?

A twisted little chamber piece, SHOCK features excellent performances by its leads, a wonderful score by Goblin offshoot Libra, and one of the greatest jump scares in cinema history. Marketed in the U.S. as a sequel to Ovidio Assonitis’ BEYOND THE DOOR (1974) and often overlooked by fans because of it, the film got a new lease on life with its 2000 DVD release from Anchor Bay – but that’s been it, for over two decades. I assume Arrow’s upcoming release will be worth the wait. More details soon!

(Special thanks to “frakking toaster”!)
