So... I think my full size speakers are overkill for my left and right surrounds. I've also been thinking how nice it would be to have end tables where they are... So. I've got two full size speakers I'd like to move up front(instead of just straight up sell). I've got room up front to have 2 sets of 2 speakers for my front left and front right. And I'm thinking it would sound great. I just dont have a clue how I would wire it...

You generally don't want 2 sets of speakers wired together. The issues with ohms aside, if both speakers produce the same sounds they will create a null between them where the waves come together. Unless you are using active crossovers to only use one speaker for some frequencies ranges and the other speaker for the rest. The problem is tho unless you're crossing over the speakers really really high or low you'll run into odd transitions. On the whole it's not a good idea to have 2 speakers drive one channels audio.

IMO the only 'good' way to do this (and I use the term 'good' loosley) would be to set it up using the new 'wide' or 'height' speakers. Even then, towers would be very difficult to position properly for height channels. No movies are recorded that use these channels though. It's processing that's only done in a few select receivers. I know new Onkyo models feature Dolby IIz, which is the processing for the height channels. Off the top of my head I don't remember what brands offer the wide channels.

Also, as kareface mentioned briefly, just wiring two speakers together from a regular receiver will change the impedance for those speakers and you could be getting into dangerous territory for your receiver by doing so.

Maybe just use the speakers for an FM Radio setup in the basement or something?

?? I dont think I have a predicament, just looking to change my set up a bit. Floor standing speakers are great, but take up a lot of space, which we lost when we moved to Alaska.

We just had our entire living room rewired for power and home theater, so it's all squared away for whatever we need to do.

There are some nice monitor speakers out there to choose from. Just make sure you have a decent sub to pick up the slack.

Yea, had all new outlets, boxes, everything put in. No bare wires flopping anywhere!

A lot of people recommend the paradigm surrounds, I might get a set of them. Probably looking to spend ~$350-400 on a pair.
