At least in the top 3 of greatest TV series of all time. The Blu's are magnificent.

Totally worth it. Anything by HBO is.

Buy it but be forewarned your gonna be dying for season 2 to come out on BD. That's the only reason I haven't purchased season 1 or 6 yet. I need the whole series.

I would just rent them. I wouldn't find the show to have a great rewatch value. Awesome show tho

minimafiaaj,

A definite blind-buy. However, why not just rent them? They'll eventually release the entire series in one huge box set. Soooo, if you do love it you'll have to sell whatever you have and then put more $$$ down for the box. Depends on if you want to wait or not. It's up to you.

Only reason I haven't gotten this yet is that I'm hoping and praying for a complete blu ray boxset of this. There's just no other way to go for me.

It is a great show but I agree that for many people it doesn't have much re-watch value. Also the review on the PQ IMO wasn't that good. I will stick with the DVD sets.

Default My Answer Is YES !

1. Read my review here under Sopranos 1st season.
2. If your tastes are gangsters, drama, a dash of comedy, GREAT music, yes, by all means.
3. If you are intelligent, that is, you " get " subtle humor such as a wiseguy trying to sound smart, and instead bungling the English language.
4. Rewatchability ? Definitely. First there were the actual broadcasts, then the DVDs, now the Blu Rays. I'd say I personally rewatch at least every 6 months or so. MY opinion though, may not be everyone.

I can't think of many movies/shows I would recommend as a blind buy. Personally, I couldn't get in to the Sopranos, a show about a bunch of scumbag murderers and felons. I know more than a few people who really liked it though, so perhaps you could rent? I mean, how many times are you going to watch something that's 6 seasons and 50+ (?) hours long?

I blind bought the whole series when 6.2 came out on DVD. Have watched it 6 times through since then.

TV shows that are well made like this have INFINITE re-playability.

I think it is the best series of all time hands-down. It is sheer brilliance. If I were you, at this price I would not wait until the whole series comes out, as that could be years.

You must really like the show. I doubt most people would watch an entire TV series 6 times, but I may be wrong. If the OP is one of those people then a blind buy would be a good idea. If not, then it wouldn't.

I love this show. I can't really organize the top 3 of all time, but it is in there.

I disagree.

Sopranos is a good enjoyable show. It was groundbreaking when it premiered. I think it is a show I can recomend to most. Blind buy is probably a safe bet. But, it is not the best show of all time. The show seemed to simply be treading water for the final half of the series.. I doubt I could have watched another season. The ending was poor (didn't piss me off since I knew it was coming), but a true slap in the face for the fan that watched it for years. This alone knocks it down a few notches.

Best all time? Well depends what you include. If you include mini-series, the Band of Brothers is it. To me, it is the best thing ever made for television. Planet Earth would be near the top as well (but I assume we are limiting the discussion to scripted fictional dramas/comedies etc). Assuming that, I would give Battlestar Galactica the nod for best TV ever. Lost is a close second (withholding final judgement to see if they screw up the ending like so many shows do...). Deadwood is close, but canceling it with 1 season to go was very bad form. Firefly would have been if Fox didn't screw up one of the best series they ever had...

The Wire, I consistantly hear is the best thing ever made. Have watched 5 episodes so far, and I am not sold yet. Very good show, but not hooked (likely because the review have made my expectations unrealistic), and it is growing on me (feel about the same towards it as I did Deadwood at the same point).

BTW, these were all blind buys for me. The only TV show blind buy that I regret and was recomended here was Generation Kill. There are a few other shows I regret purchasing, but those were more Gold Box impulse buys.

I'd say rent first. I came late into the series and watched a few episodes here and there. Back in 05 and early 06 HBO2 aired the entire series in preparation for Season 6. I Tivo'd every episode and eventually became hooked. Some seasons will stand out more than others but that's just personal preference.

If you're a fan of "Goodfellas" then you'll love the first season. Also, you will find many of the characters from Goodfellas in The Sopranos as well, you'll just have to sift them out when you go back to watch Goodfellas.

The series builds and often times you have to reference back to an earlier episode from a different season to comprehend what happened to a specific character or an event.

You may not get hooked the first time around, this is why I say rent it first. Eventually one episode might stand out there and will have you wanting to see more, as with the case with me during the forth season where I finally became a huge fan of the series.

Default King Spade-you da man !!!

Best Buy Soprano sale...same here ! Those are what I recently sold for the Blus. Also, while watching " American Gangster " the other night, I thought how we were first introduced to Bumpy Johnson by way of " Hoods" with Larry Fishburne, and Tim Roth !
