Default Yamaha DVD-S1800 - $79.99 new @ Amazon

Still need a SACD/Universal player? Amazon has a great deal on the Yamaha DVD-S1800. I grabbed one - considering it debut at $450 a couple years ago I couldn't pass it up:

http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-DVD-S18...2363271&sr=8-1

http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/p...l?CNTID=558368

Amazing player for the price. I prefer the audio to the Oppo DV-980H or DV-981HD and the upscaling to 1080P is better than the DV-981HD and the equal of the DV-980H. Its so much better than my Toshiba BDX2000 that I'll be using it for all my SD-DVD viewing.

Why do you prefer the audio over the Oppo units?

Its a little more clear and strong (leaning towards the treble side) than the DV-981HD, but not as "thin" sounding as the DV-980H. To keep peace in my home with my late night viewing I use a pair of decent headphones and I'm picking up faint, peripheral sounds in movies that I was missing on my other players.

How do you have it connected? HDMI? Analog? Both? What are your other components?

HDMI directly to the set. I'm a home theater noob for the most part, so someone with a quality, complete system would get different results I'm sure. Just from a subjective standpoint it sounds the best of the three to me either from the set's crappy speakers or my nice headphones.

Thanks for getting back to me! I was just wondering as I really like my Oppo DV-980H and didn't want to realize that I was missing out on quality!

If you have it connected with HDMI, I believe you are getting downgraded PCM and not the DSD stream. At least if I remember correctly.

I'm not sure if this player handles DSD natively. Also, does his receiver? They both need to have this capability.
