I’m not sure how many or which AVR’s has the capabilities to have Internet radio and satellite radio usage.
For the ones that do, have anyone compared the AQ? If so, which is better, the internet radio or satellite? |

When we first got the receiver last year Sirius gave us a year free...until we bought the car kit, then somehow they deleted us from the home radio and we are STILL waiting to here back on there decision! I'll stick with Pandora, I don't even come close to the 40hrs a month. But at $36. a year Pandora could be worth it 192/24 sound or not!

I bought the Sonos zoneplayer 90 and have it hooked up to my Integra and mainly use only Pandora and I agree with the sound being CD quality at best. I just bought an Apple airport express and have the audio and Ethernet going into my Sonos now I can wirelessly stream my iTunes.

The Yammy's internet radio stations, while able to play decent songs (lots of international options), suffers from poor AQ most of the time. Pandora is the way to go for free, I just don't set it up that often. Agreed on the statement of CD quality at best.
I've even played a bunch of mp3's from my library and it's an eye opener to hear some of the AQ that sounds decent from the PC, but not so much when hooked up to the main rig. |

Sirius audio quality completely sucks. Most internet radio is better, but it depends upon the bit rate. Pandora is light years better than Sirius - it really sounds uncannily good.
One of the big problems with Sirius (don't know if this also applies to XM) is that they totally screw up the phase which results in all kinds of artifacts. If you listen to the difference signal (L minus R), which you can do by listening in mono and reversing the phase of one channel, you hear all kinds of little beeps and squiggles, just like the ones movie directors use when some film shows a satellite in orbit. It's uncanny. However, having said that, I think the user interfaces for web radio stations on most receivers really sucks. I access Pandora via my Sony Blu-ray player and I don't bother with the web radio on my Pioneer tuner because it's not worth the hassle. It's actually easier to tune the stations in on my Mac and send that to the Pioneer. |
