Default RMS vs watts.....

Hi folks. I'm still learning about all this home theater gear and I'm sure this is a juvenile question but I'm trying to understand the difference between RMS vs watts. If anyone wants to give info I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

RMS is True power .. "watts" or Peak is just that , Peak power / burst power etc

Read A Guide to Amplifiers. It has a sticky in Receivers & Amplifiers section.

Ohhh snap!......I got the guy that posts the google link FIRST. What a treat. I know what google is dude. I like to get specific answers to specific questions by people that are interested in this stuff and fortunately I usually don't get the google crap from this site. I guess it's bound to happen once and awhile. Thanks for your contribution.

well RMS power doesn't need to be rocket science .. Its Actual Power an Amplifier will put out continuous, Which gives you a definite answer to at Least how much power you will get after Impedance rise, and in full range...

I disagree. RMS power is actually rocket science and requires knowledge of calculus. See the derivation in the following:

Lies.. RMS power is easy to find.. I finished pre calc in HS and have never once in my life used in in electrical, car audio or carpentry.. Useless As long as you can figure out Voltage, resistance and current flow ( and avg AC/DC ) you can do almost anything in the field.. Ohms Law helps too.. The link you posted is overkill

Edit.. That also does happen to be one of the easiest calculus equation i've ever seen.. But it is a nice touch saying they are "used in Physics and Electrical engineering

NONE OF THE EQUIPMENT YOU USED IN CAR AUDIO OR ELSWHERE WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE KNOWLEDGE OF PHYSICS, CALCULUS, AND OTHER SCIENCES. IN FACT, YOU WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO POST ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET WITHOUT CALCULUS.

RMS is average power. Watts is power. RMS Watts is average power. As opposed to peak instantaneous brief power. Think a sustained organ note or bass engine throbbing of the Entrerprise's warp drive versus a staccato machine gun fire or Ringo hitting the snare. I got that from Googledeci.
