Red face Are these worth the price?

These are very cheap and I think they look alright. But I'm new to speakers.. Some help please. What will I NEED if I order this. And what is recommended?

Thumbs up Fluance

I've read several positive reviews about Fluance speakers. It looks like a good deal. I'm not sure what you mean by " what will I need and what is recommended ".

for speakers like that you will be fine with some simple 16 gauge speaker wire from Home Depot or http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp For the subwoofer you will need an RG6 or subwoofer cable. You can get one again at monoprice.

Not bad for the price, they won't sound like a movie theatre but for home movies and TV they will be better than using the TV speakers. You will need a receiver if you don't have one.

Alright thanks man.. It's only $200 on AMZ.. Any other cords or things I'll need to go along with this?

For the Fluance, I would suggest the next package up (the $299 one). I had them a few years ago and I can say they are terrific for starting out. I would NOT suggest you get a Fluance sub.

The towers feature dual 6.5-inch poly-coated woofers and a 1-inch silk-dome tweeter. The center channel speaker sports a pair of 4-inch poly-coated woofers, and a 1-inch plastic tweeter, while the surround speakers include the same type of woofer and tweeter.
This worries me. Ideally, the center, left and right speakers should be timbre matched --usually achieved by at least using the same tweeter, and maybe the same midrange drivers.
Otherwise, when voices move to the center channel, they become less rich, less commanding. Tinny, if you're feeling less than kind. Too a certain extent, this can be combatted through signal processing, but it's not ideal.

On the other hand, the set probably sounds a bit better in 2 channel mode, i.e. music, than it would have had, had fluance decided to use the surround speaker all around.

Owen,

Perhaps you may look into these also, they are probably as good if not better speakers and about the same price.

http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...06-hcs-1-black

They would go well with the Yamaha 663 found on amazon.

Ditto on the previous post Jamo is a solid speaker company own by Klipsh and I heard those specific speakers just today very nice for an entry level speaker. Great bang for the buck.

I've heard good things about the Fluance and Jamo speakers, but if I had to choose I would probably go with the Jamo setup. I will also add that I've bought from Vann's once and they had excellent customer service.

Also, I don't know what your budget is for a receiver, but I suggest you put this Marantz from accessories4less on your list for consideration.
