Default Question about TV network's Holiday movie selection

Sure, we have the typical Christmas movies but I somehow get this feeling that they play a lot of Alien(s), Bladerunner during the Holiday
Why is that?

Its an attempt to draw the audiences who are watching football games during the holidays. A lot of men and women are skipping the reruns and spending a whole day watching sports. Rival networks who run nothing but traditional holiday films lose out because some people want an alternative to that genre.

Which is why I loved that AMC celebrated New Year's eve with "Slap Happy New Years Eve" and aired the newly remastered Three Stooges shorts all day long and into the early morning of New Year's Day. If you happen to hate the "special evening" programming and only care about the actual date change, this alternative program is great.
