I'm sure we haven't seen the "final" edition of Batman Begins, but they'll probably weight to cross-promote with the 3rd film. |

New Edition?? What was wrong with the "old edition"?
Was it too grainy? Was Liam Neesons voice not loud enough? Did Batman shoot first?? I have both THe DARK NIGHT and BATMAN BEGINS on blu. Aside from the pesky aspect ratio changes in TDK, they both look great. |

Read the review here. Specifically the audio section: "Watch the scene where Batman eludes the police in the Batmobile, jumping from rooftop to rooftop. At one point, as the tumbler cruises along a sloped roof, the wheels rip off ceramic tiles in rapid succession, like machine gun fire. When I saw the film in the theater, the wheels made a distinct sound as the Batmobile drove over each of these tiles, but the detail, impact and dynamic punch of this audio sequence was a bit lost on the Blu-ray. The sonics are not badly muddied, but they lack the punch, realism and extension of the best BD content. This is a prime example of how HD DVD held back the HD formats. Hopefully, Warner's days of using low bitrate content on BD are coming to an end." The Dark Knight fares better in the audio department, and the IMAX scenes are fantastic. But the non-IMAX scenes in The Dark Knight are DNRed to death and hardly look like they belong in the same film. Check out Paramount's handling of Transformers: ROTF to see how similar the IMAX and non-IMAX scenes are supposed to look. |

On HD DVD, the first disc was an HD-30 (30gbs) with a 1080/24f transfer and 1.5mbs Dolby Digital Plus audio. For the Blu-ray, the first disc is now a BD-50 disc with the 1080/24f transfer and Dolby TrueHD & 640kbs Dolby Digital audio tracks. Paramount and Universal actually spend time and money to produce the Blu-ray Discs with video & audio encodes. Warner is just lazy and will simply port the HD-DVD to Blu-ray Disc without working on the video or audio. In a lot of cases, if the HD-DVD was on an HD-30, then Warner will use a BD-25 since most of their HD-DVDs rarely went over 23gbs of space. Last edited by steve_dave; 01-05-2010 at 05:39 PM. |

also needs a more detailed transfer. the blu-ray is disappointingly soft for a newer film. I don't think a new encode is going to bring back detail that wasn't digitized in the first place.
