Canada Next Format after Blu-ray?

The next format is not for now, everybody have 1080p TVs now and blu-ray reach their full potential so a new format is not near or door step.
Maybe we will start to see new stuff soon but we're good for at least 5 years IMO.

Each format ruled at least 10 years before the new one came out.
I got blu early 2007 when did it started?
2006?

Yup 2006, I jumped in when the PS3 came out which was November of 2006. I can't believe the PS3 is already 3 years old. Best piece of entertainment I have bought in a very long time.

I wasn't a gamer but it seems ridiculous to buy a standalone BD player for the same price than a 80go PS3 with a game (motorstorm) and a BD. (spider man 3)

Now I have 13 games and I play them.

If I'd bought a bd player back then it wouldn't do bd live too.

Cheers,
Gui.

"Toshiba has confirmed that they are close to launching its flagship LED TV, which will uniquely include the 64-bit Cell processor used in Sony's PS3. The "Cell Regza" will have a panel resolution of 3840x2160 pixels. It will include a Blu-ray player and a 1TB recorder. Toshiba has confirmed that the Cell Regza will be on display at the CES show in January 2010."

Masaaki Oosumi, president of Toshiba's Digital Media Network Company, said that this new TV "brings together Toshiba imaging, storage and network technologies". He added, "it will be Toshiba's flagship model in the true sense. It is the ultimate entertainment machine that brings more excitement than a movie in a theatre. I would like to let users experience the same sensation as they felt by watching a color TV for the first time."

Toshiba will announce the specifications of the Cell TV within days, Oosumi said. It will be first available in Japan in December 2009. As for the pricing, he just said that it will be "fairly expensive".

It said it will include a blu-ray player so what's the point of having an out of price 3840x2160 TV if your player "only" play 1920x1080?

As I said we will see new stuff soon but the player remains a blu-ray...

Cheers,
Gui.

That's most likely the specs for 3D which has nothing to do with a new format, just BD in 3D which is 2x 1920x1080 streams.

i think its kind of funny were talking about a new format already. Blu-ray is only a little over 3 years old. There won't be a new format for awhile. atleast 5 more years. New TV's and electronics? Yes of course. New electronics are obsolete about 4 minutes after you purchase them cause something bigger and better will be coming out the next day. haha. gotta love it

I believe the included Cell Processor (same type as the PS3 uses; extremely powerful CPU) is there to perform some kind of very precise form of upscaling on 1080p content. I read something about this TV a while back, and that's what was said.

Probably the closest we'll get to 4K at home for quite some time.

I'm enjoying Blu-ray for now...I've got too much invested to just ditch it for another format. We're good for a while.

So... was it available in Japan... and what are the specs/price?

I'm willing to bet for awhile it'll be outside of the price range of the average {even early adopter} consumer.

make it in line with digital cinema standards... 2k or 4k video streams, deep color, visually lossless compression. probably something like a terabyte of storage would be sufficient. otherwise im not interested as the improvements will be marginal at best and not worth retooling my home theater. and, it'd need to support 3d, obviously.

I've upgraded my collection of movies twice already, so I'm pretty unwilling to do it for a third time. Especially, since the difference in both the visual and auditory upgrade will be negligible at best given the current screen sizes and viewing distances. Not to mention that any improvement beyond 1080p will be hard to perceive for the human eye.

Yeah only way they'd clip me again is if I could do side by side and say wow other then that I'm staying with blu-ray.
