I'd say Amazon. I you go to the BN store, you pay taxes and they're still cheaper at Amazon, I think. Keep them in your wish list and keep track of the prices. Some days you may save a few bucks.

cheaper than amazon? with membership they are 29 almost not including the tax! Amazon has them for 25ish normally

On a sale you can find them cheaper sometimes but not normal prices. As for B&M selection will be limited. Frys probably has them and maybe BB. But you are just going to have to pay more no matter where you go for them if you are going B&M only

Default Buy them on sale

Here's what happened in November...(from another forum)

Starting on November 10, Barnes and Noble will be running their 50% off Criterion promotion for 2 weeks, according to multiple B&N employees.

Sale will occur online and in-store, but you can get them cheaper in-store than you can online if you are a B&N member. Here's how:

The list price for most Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays is $40
The 50% off sale drops them to $20
Your 10% membership discount drops them to $18
And finally, this $5 coupon drops them to $13...

The five dollar coupon was kinda YMMV, in terms of multiple uses, I didn't participate in the last sale, but will definitely do so in the future. Read the Blu-Ray.com Criterion forum for notice when the next sale occurs, there's usually quite a buzz.

I get most of mine from DVDPlanet.com, not sure if it's the absolute cheapest, but you get points as you go and they email coupon codes a fair bit.

Borders offers decent weekly coupons of 25 or 30% off an item for Rewards members. Very occasionally, they offer a 40 or 50% movie coupon or have a buy 2 get one free sale.

Obviously, the 50% coupon is best, as it will get you a $39.99 Criterion BD for $20 (limit 2, if memory serves).
