Default Sony BDP-S1 vs Sony BDP-S300

Aside from price is there really a clear cut choice in choosing between the two players ?

The fact you can play CD's in the BDP-S300 is huge for some people.

BDP-S1 has firmware for TruHD, where the S300 doesn't yet. I'm sure we will see it in the S300 sometime in Oct, before the release of The next Gen players. Just to give it a better selling point.

If its just a firmware upgrade with both players using the same chipset then should be a no brainer that TrueHD will be in the future for the S300.

However with the next gens coming out in october is it in ones best interest to hold off altogether from buying a standalone player now ? To be honest I have no idea what changes are being made in october. But I will root around and see what I can locate.

With the S300 and the 60g PS3 being nearly equal in price I am wondering if there is a advantage to either, aside from the gaming. I own a 360 with the HD addon and one thing I hate while watching a flick is the wind tunnel noise I get off the 360.

I do not know what TV you have "down" but I strongly recommend you wait a tiny but more and see the new Bravia XBR5. With the 24s option...well, I think this set is pretty much built to promote Blu-Ray superiority.

For the record: from someone who owns a Bravia XBR3 (46') and a, just-bought, S300 it is an impressive set-up to have.
