Hi, our boardroom currently has an older 800x600 resolution projector that projects onto a 54" wide screen. Our company would like to get a more updated projector and possibly a bigger screen but our room is only 20' long, first row of seats its currently 7' back from the screen. I was wondering if we got a 4300 lumen 720p projector and just kept the same screen would it be ok or would we really want to jump up to like 70" screen?
They were originally interested in like a 90" something screen but the minimum viewing distance is just too great for our room is what I have determined from some googling.. |

20' room, you should be able to get a 140+ " screen no problem..... for 7' viewing distance and beyond.... I would recommend staying in the 90-100" range.
I'm assuming everything you throw will be 4:3 ratio right? The old screen will work just fine, but I would think you could go much bigger. |

Thanks for your reply Beta Man but when I look on the web for minimum viewing distances everything seems to point to 1.5x screen width. For 96" that means 12' back, that's 5' farther away when our current first row seats, unless the calculators are wrong.
We decided against getting a screen that big anyway, we have about 72" of width from the edge of the doorway frame to the cabinet on the wall so we were thinking about just getting a screen that fill up more of the space. We currently have a pull down screen in there right now that is inside of a big wooden enclosure that has a whiteboard as well. Does it matter what brand of screen we get? When I went through the CDW chat (we buy a lot of stuff from them) they recommended this one: http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/def...3a%28953295%29 This is the projector we are looking at: http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/def...a%281539273%29 Do we want to get a screen that is square, like the 70"x70" ? |
