Default 15 Films to vie for Best Visual Effects OSCAR

Of course only 3 will be up for the OSCAR but here is the link & info for the 15 films which will be whittled down to 3 by Feb. 2, 2010. (I highlighted in BOLD the 3 I think might be chosen, tho', the 3rd one was a Serious toss-up between Termn. Salvation, ROTF, 2012, & Watchmen. I'm pretty sure AVATAR & STAR TREK will be 2 of the 3)

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/159...-for-vfx-oscar

The 15 "Semi-Finalists" are: Angels & Demons, Avatar, Coraline, Disney's A Christmas Carol, District 9, G-Force, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, 2012, Watchmen and Where the Wild Things Are.

In early January that list will be narrowed to seven, while 15-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films will be screened by Academy members on January 21st. Three films will make the final nomination list which will be announced on Tuesday, February 2nd.

I'm totally sure that Avatar is going to win the award after reading so many feedbacks.

I think the 3 nominated will end up being Avatar (win), Transformers 2, and 2012.

You would think, but it'll be interesting to see the other 2 that get chosen.

Good choices, but for anyone to say "AVATAR" will Win or Clean up just based on a couple previews & the pedigree of James Cameron, knowing how much time & money he spent on this film, is a bit of conjecture right Now, no? That said, I think it very well May win the visual effects & similar awards but we shall have to be a bit more patient. Only 107 or so more hours til' my AVATAR in IMAX 3D !!!

I have no doubt that with all the hype it will be Avatar. As much as I hate to have to say it (because I hated the movie so bad), District 9 had really good special effects also. Having said that it wouldn't bother me at all to see one of the others win. Based on the previews Avatar just doesn't look appealing at all to me.

Avatar, Transformers 2 (The visual effects are breathtaking), Star Trek.
I think either Transformers 2 will get it or Avatar, leaning more towards Avatar.

They totally cheated with Transformers losing to the Golden Compass.

Can we pray that Transformers and Terminator aren't nominated, so they can't call themselves an Oscar nominee?

If Avatar's effects live up to half the hype, it has this in the bag.

The trailer alone has the best effects of the year.

That's how I think it will go too. There were a lot of great effects in film though this year.

At least one of those will get nominated in the two sound categories as well, and probably will win, so you will have to live with them calling themselves Oscar Winners.
