Default For Those Who Live in New York

A friend of mine does a lot of shows that appeal to the younger (16-25) set, and he really hates doing New York. Whenever he announces a show, immediately he gets messages like "why didn't you book it in (insert borough here). cause I live there and I won't go if it's not in X"

Can someone explain to me why these kids, who have grown up in the city with the biggest and best public transportation system in the country act this way? Their peers will drive 5 states to go to some of these shows, and all these kids have to do is hop a subway. I understand the issue of getting out of the city, cause most of them don't have cars and such, and many New Yorkers are used to things coming to them (whereas here in Philly, they tell us to go to NYC or DC ), but a 20-30min subway ride?

1/2 hour on a train or bus is no problem at all. I use public transit as a chance to catch up on my reading.

I agree NYC has a good transit system, but for an outsider, it's a bit intimidating.

Speaking as a Brit who has been in NY for ten years New Yorkers can be a bit weird like that. Years ago I worked at the Strand Annex bookstore and I would often have customers say that they never normally go below 14th street.

On the other hand, I live in Queens and if the M train isn't running (almost every bloody weekend these days) it has to be something pretty damn spectacular for me to face the bus to get into the city.
