Default Favorite/Best Romantic-Comedy, Epic Romance, and Romance Films

In ode to Atonement being released, I thought I'd make a thread about the most successful genre of film from a financial perspective: romance.

Please list what films are your favorite or you consider to be the best, in the following three categories:

1) Romantic-Comedy (a film that is equal parts romance and comedy)

2) Epic Romance (a film that centers around a love story during a time of conflict. Films like Braveheart do not count, because it is not centered around romance).

3) Romance (films that are pure romance or based around relationships)

The only one I watch every year, so it's got my vote.

Love Actually, followed by Bridget Jones. I'm not sure if I've ever watched any romance movie without comedy in it.

Romantic-Comedy

1) When Harry Met Sally (the best dialogue of any romantic comedy)

Epic Romance

1) Titanic (shows that even a brief love affair can have incredible meaning)

2) The New World (shows that self-discovery is one of the great results of love, and that sometimes it can supercede love itself)

3) Out of Africa (shows that despite love, some people still prefer the freedom that exists without a relationship)

Romance

1) Closer (deals with the things we do to the ones we love, both rational and irrational)

2) Elegy (deals with the uncertainty of dating someone younger and better looking, and not feeling like you deserve them)

3) Atonement (deals with how a fleeting moment can affect one forever, even through tumultuous events)

4) Vicky Cristina Barcelona (deals with people knowing what they don't want in a relationship, but not knowing what they actually do want)

5) Lolita (Kubrick version) (deals with the unattainable love and the affect that a moment in childhood can have on someone later in life)

6) Solaris (2002 version) (deals with the inability to deal with the death of one's love, and realizing that you cannot truly understand love without first understanding yourself)

7) The Fountain (deals with one man's loss and his realization that instead of attempting to prolong life, you should take advantage of the time you have, every second, with the person you love)

8) Slumdog Millionaire (deals with the bonding of two people through a difficult childhood, and the ability to find the person you have grown to love, after separation)

9) Romeo and Juliet (Zefferelli version) (self-explanatory. I also like the Lurhmann version quite a bit, but prefer the Zefferelli version better)

List to be edited later.

I don't really watch many movies in this genre, but here goes...

1 - 50 First Dates

2 - Titanic (if that qualifies)

3 - My Girl

Does "Australia" count as "epic romance"? Watched it the other day, pretty good film IMO. Recieved the blu for X-mas.

I know it is not a popular view on here, but I actually like it a lot. Some of the effects are hokey (read: cattle drive), but I actually think it was a good film and a good romance, despite the fact that I don't like Nicole Kidman. The blu has one of the top 3 PQ's I've seen on blu yet.

I would be safe to say "The Princess Bride" is a romantic comedy.

Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey were the actual ages of Romeo & Juliet at the time. Another Zeffirelli fave of mine is Brother Sun Sister Moon with the then beautiful Judi Bowker.

I will have to check it out, as R & J is the only Zefferelli film I've seen. I have no idea why.

Not even Hamlet starring Mel Gibson?
