Default Playing old avi on PS3 (sound delay)

Hi,
I have some older avis (Survivor 4 ) and when I watch them on PC, they're ok, but on PS3 sound is being delayed more and more to the end. Any ideas? It's pretty new PS3 (bought a month ago), but maybe software update would help? It's still not connected to internet so can't check if that's the problem.

thanks

Sounds like an issue with how the avi were encoded. Are you playing over a network or usb/disc?

edit: nevermind I just saw that you arent connected to the internet. There were firmware updates in the past to improve divx playback, start with an update. You can d/l the update from a pc and put on a usb if you dont want to connect your PS3 to the internet.

Perhaps the audio codec in the .avi is not fully supported by the PS3.
You could try to convert the .avi into a PS3-compatible file with Xvid4PSP (it has an option to transform video files in PS3-compatible MP4 files)

Thanks guys, will try the update first. I forgot it can be done that way.

Then I'll try to re encode it.

I just searched for 3.15 and couldn't find it. I need EU version, or something like that. On Croatian Sony site, the link is broken. Shouldn't there be many links for all the PS3 versions?

No matter what encoder I use to do AVI>MP4 the audio always lags longer and longer until about 5 minutes into the program its so far behind its on another scene.

what is the frame rate of the file?

are you playing it on a EU PS3 or a USA PS3?

PC will play any frame rate just fine, the PS3 may be trying to play a 25fps file @ 60Hz, which the audio would get out of sync eventually, or vice versa for a EU PS3 (24fps @ 50Hz).

Actually on mine its the other way around. The sound is faster than the picture as I found out this morning.

With an AVI on my PC it runs in sync. Using PSP9, PS39 or any other converter that converts to MP4, within 2 or 3 minutes the sound is already one scene ahead of the action. This was on my PC using WMP. I did not try it on PSP or PS3 yet, but in the past it has seen the same kind of results.

Maybe the settings that are default are no good for my PC.

My PS3 has a setting in video settings to allow 50hz/60hz for an AVI/DIVX, which is set to auto.. There is no setting for MP4 though.. Maybe its a 50/60 hz problem.
