Lost-esque Drama Manifest Starring Josh Dallas Ordered to Series at NBC



NBC’s Lost-esque airplane thriller Manifest has landed a series order, TVLine has confirmed.

Penned by Mysteries of Laura creator Jeff Rake and counting Robert Zemeckis among its other EPs, Manifest is described as a character-driven, high-concept mystery thriller in which a plane disappears from radar and returns years later after being untraceable and presumed lost at sea. No time has passed for those aboard the plane, but for their loved ones at home, years have gone by. The series follows the passengers’ personal lives as well as the larger mystery and purpose that is their destiny.

Once Upon a Time‘s Josh Dallas leads the ensemble as Ben Stone, an intelligence analyst who struggles with his son’s rare cancer as well as a mysterious voice that is now inside his head. Valor‘s Melissa Roxburgh, meanwhile, also stars as Ben’s sister Michaela, a police officer who finds her life has a strange new purpose. The cast also includes Athena Karkanis, J.R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Jack Messina and Parveen Kaur.

The passengers and crew aboard an airliner experience some turbulence during their flight but land safely and, as far as they know, on schedule. But to the outside world, they’ve been missing for more than five years.

The series stars Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J.R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Jack Messina and Parveen Kaur. Jeff Rake (“The Mysteries of Laura”) created it. “Manifest” will air at 10 p.m. ET/PT Mondays.

This is the only show of the 3 new ones from NBC I MIGHT check out. Still determing if it is worth the investment.

This will end like the crossing answers won’t be immediate so viewers will drop off and the network won’t give it a chance

I'm not saying it's going to be bad, but I've seen a variant of this story on The Twilight Zone, like, five times already. And that was in the early '60s.

But yeah, as has been said, they're going to have to drag out answers to the mystery, people will stop watching, it'll be gone either at the end of season 1 or after a truncated season 2.

Perhaps another LOST-like failure. I'm sure they'll keep building mysteries and copying tropes until it's axed. But with that being typed, I'll check it out. 'Cause I'm dumb.

Intrigued but not hooked. I'm also thinking this might be another one-and-done series like Flashforward or The Event. Should've made this a two-hour premiere, give time to set up all the main characters, give the other characters besides the siblings or doctor something more to do. They also gloss over the amount of "infamy" these characters would now be under. Also, there's no way the government would ever just let these people go, but then you wouldn't have a show.

I don’t know about a “one and done” series, because, the story they set up, what with the five year gap, can easily lead to MULTIPLE stories and plots to fill in that missing time. Like LOST, they can easily get four good seasons if the writing is strong

Depends. Its always great to see this kind of Scifi paranormal stuff on TV with all kind of magnificent possibilities. Exploring Black Holes, Theory of Relativity, Time travelling, etc.

Sad they always end like in the stupidest kind of explanation. AKA LOST. If this is more like boring writting with drama instead of exploring scientific intelligent explanations for what happened i will skip it. And i hope its not some scientific experiment done by some private company in order to save the world or destroying it. Even thought it would be better than Lost ending.

Well, if the passengers of flight 828 all have “abilities” now, then we’ve just been given a dose of LOST meets HEROES
