Is it just me or have BDs increased in price quite considerably, particularly new releases?
I remember when you could easily get a new release for $14,99, or maximum $19,99. Now, it seems every release is at least $19,99. There are rarely coupons anymore, and the 3-D BDs have seemingly catapulted the prices to new heights. What's going on?? Any thoughts? Last edited by Bluyoda; 08-28-2012 at 09:04 PM. |

Catalog releases have always hung around the $15 - $20 range; some might be cheaper yet. There are a few that seem pricey. A lot of the new movies up for pre-order seem to be extravagant (a bunch of them are showing up as over $20, and even over $30, but I'm doubtful these prices are permanent). Still, even this is not new.
It's business as usual, boss. ![]() |

To get a Criterion disc opening week for $19.99 like you could with Royal Tenenbaums, and at Best Buy no less, was really surprising... |

Here in Canada new releases are at least $25, sometimes as high as $35.

Well, if your specifically talking Disney titles like you were saying, they may have went up a bit, the coupons have slowly been cut back and reduced to the point of disappearing on certain releases. So the releases that we were getting for 10 or 12 dollars, are now up to 20 or 22. The prices themselves haven't really went up or down, maybe they went up by a dollar or two, but the main reason they've gotten more expensive is the coupons.

I don't know what it's like for folks in the US, but pre-orders seem to be steeper than they used to be. £20 for the 3D Prometheus release? £20 for the Steelbook Jaws release? A couple of years ago, I couldn't imagine these being any more than £15.

I'm certantly a lot poorer. I make a game of getting Blu-rays cheap, wait for the price to come down, check one-day sales, check all the online retailers & just be patient. Don't pre-order.

The release day deals with coupons for disney movies are way less good.
It was common for me to combine some deals (legit) and get new disney blus for $8 to $10 I think I got Burton's Alice in Wonderland for $6. On the other hand.... There's a lot. Erie bargain bin blus. Bb has a $5.99 and a $7.99 bin. Walmart does too and a bunch of double features for $5. |

for me, a new release i really want will be picked up for a $19.99 price or lower.
i can't remember the last time i paid more than $19.99 for a new release....compared to a couple years ago when new releases were routinely $22.99. |
