Default In what room do you have your home theater?

Some people on here have their home theaters in their living room, or family room, or even basement/man cave. But some also have their home theaters in a spare bedroom, maybe even a converted garage.

In what room do you have your home theater? Why did you choose that room?

And, of course, share pictures and links of your theaters!

My HT is in my living room because there was nowhere else to put it. No bonus room in my house and no such thing as basements in NE Florida. For pics click the link for my HT gallery at the left.

And by the way OP, where are your pics?

Mine is in the basement that serves as our family room as well. I had no other room to convert into my HT, so the basement was the only choice. But if I had a choice, it would still had been the basement. Complete light control, perfect rectangular shape for a theater and it is a very large in space.

OP, you should make this a poll....nice idea by the way.

Basement family room for me. "Theater" area on one side, pool table and bar on the other.

My HT room is a HT / gameroom combo. When I had my house built, the original plan selected had a bonus loft with a half-height wall that overlooked the formal living room below. I had the builder extend the loft and finish out the entire floor, and that created a 28' x 17.5' HT/gameroom. The HT space is approximately 17.5' D x 13' wide, taking up just about half the room. I had the room pre-wired for a 6.1 channel system, and also had it cabled with ethernet, HD cable, and HD satellite feeds.

So far, the room has worked really well for movie and music listening. The other half of the room houses a poker table, and hopefully a pool table will be there soon. There are a few poor photos of parts of the room in my gallery. I'm in the process of finishing out the room, so I'll have more photos up soon.

Currently i have my samsung in my bedroom, and the kuro in the living room. well its kind of a living room. its a room that opens up to a kitchen.

I'll be moving in a couple weeks and the samsung and def techs will probably go into another bedroom. but the kuro and my next speakers will ether go into the basment or the attic.

Ether of those places will have plenty of space when im ready to buy my next HT gear. I'll be making the basment or the attic my dedicated HT space. acoustic panels and all.

Should be fun.

Sorry dont have any pics right now. i'll probably make a thread in the gallary section when i move and get everything setup again.

Its going to be a pain having to setup and recalibrate everything.

But i guess thats part of the joy of this hobby.

Excellent posts so far! Great to hear why people chose the rooms they did, etc.

No pics yet. My fiancee just got a temporary place and are house hunting for a place to have by September. I'll take pics of the living room setup once I get home. But just picture a TV stand, a PS3, a digital cable receiver, a Sony receiver, and some Sony surrounds. Oh, and a 50-inch Samsung plasma, annnnnnnnnd a modest DVD case with Blus and DVDs!

Pictures are in my gallery....... I have mine in the attic, although we have tossed around the idea of turning our addition into a more proper "Home Theater" We like using the addition for the "living room" so our living room/family room in the original part of the house doesn't have a t.v. to take away from the "formalness" of the room....

We have 4 bedrooms on the second floor, so putting it in one of those rooms would be too close to sleeping babies and wife!

Other discussion is for a dedicated theater above a garage..... but the cost of doing that right now (since we'd need a new garage) is too much right now.

The "Attic-Movie-Room" gets the job done..... but it certainly makes getting proper sized theater seats etc. in there impossible due to the layout, and narrow stairway going into it......

There is no bedrooms anywhere close to the addition of the house though, so I could watch movies at reference level while the little ones are asleep without problems, but we're still debating on whether or not to use this room for that..... I do watch movies in this room now, but the Attic is the main movie room....

in short "The Attic"

EDIT:

If you're basing any of your home buying decisions on "Home Theater" then I highly suggest finding a WELL WATERPROOFED semi-finished basement...... Open space, and framed up surrounding walls.... then you can do the proper insulation/soundproofing the first time.

My HT is in the family room. Now I have plans of creating a dedicated 2-channel setup in my game room/home office.

No Home Theater, just a couple of media rooms. Chose locations because bathroom & kitchen wouldn't work well.

Our HT is in the living room. We have a condo so no oppertunity for the basement. The living was the only option as the den and sunroom are way to small. Forget about the 3 bedrooms!

Mine is in a spare bedroom. It's roughly 12x13. I've been toying with the idea of converting my 2 car garage into a theater/bar. I have my arcade in there now, but with MAME a full arcade is kind of redundant. I would only keep 4-5 that have unique control panels, and line the back of the room with them. I really want a proper PJ set-up.

My main set up is in my living room, but I have a secondary set up in my game room/great room. I'm currently working on my master bedroom set up. New front towers are scheduled to arrive tomorrow, then I just need a BD player and a wireless transmitter for my rears. Pics in HT gallery.
