Default PS3 turned off automatically

So a few weeks ago, I was playing on my PS3 then suddenly, the system shuts off on itself. I turn it back on and a message pops up that it wasn't turned off properly. So I checked my game data, trophies, etc. and they were all fine so I thought it was no big deal and it hasn't happened since...till today. I was playing God of War Collections and it did it again. And it gave me the same message about how it wasn't turned off properly. I'm thinking the system may have overheated. Is that the case, or is something wrong with my PS3?

If it was overheat i'm sure you'll get that usual pop-up saying that the system is too hot or something like that. I say it's your PS3(talking from experience with same problem but when it happened to mine some things would make it turn off automatically and others will play just fine with no turning off of the PS3 at all).

All I'll say is that this started happening to me a month or so ago and on Boxing Day it finally shut down and it come back on and I had to fork out cash to get a new one. Try keeping it in a cool place where it gets plenty of air and try and clean the dust out of it. Also back-up your game saves just incase the system does crash and not turn back on. These are a few of the things I wish I knew before losing all my data and having to start from scratch.

My system began doing that occasionally over the Christmas holiday. I ultimately ended up with YLOD last Monday.

Alright I figured out the problem. I had it in a closed space with little air comming out so I moved it out and it has a lot of room to breathe. I also cleaned the dust out with a vaccume hose (don't want to void warrenty to open system)
