UPDATE TO ORIGINAL POST:
AGAIN....This thread isn't asking if you blind buy a lot. What I’m asking is: Tuesday comes, is there ever a movie you tell yourself, NO, I don’t need that one now, or it’s not worth $20, or whatever your excuse is. But….by the end of the day, you somehow justified the purchase and it’s in your collection by the time you get home??? i'm currently doing that to myself w/Ong Bak 1 & 2 next week. i also did it when Gremlins was released as a Target exclusive.....i initially wasn't going to get it, i was gonna wait, but by the end of the day, i was @ Target and picking it up. I'm doing that with those two as well....I think it's the "buy both at Best Buy, get $10 off" ---it's been mentioned in the Best Buy ad for that week thread, in the hot-deals forum.
I don't know anything about these movies other than what I've read in the forums and the review section. I've not heard of the star, Tony Jaa, nor seen him in anything. I'm not huge into martial arts movies...I do own Kung Fu Panda (tee-hee). But the possibility of getting 2 new Blu's for $26 or so, it just seems too good to pass up. I did almost buy Infernal Affairs on Blu, imported, rather pricey for a blind-buy. I ended up getting the SD from Amazon. It was ok, but I prefer The Departed...think it was more about the 'stars' for me. The Reader, nice movie, good story, good actors....did I need to buy it? Did I need it on Blu? No & No....but I own it, got it on sale during Black Friday week. I posted in the Blind Buy thread last week. I was one of the first to start a post. When I got mine done, saw a few others, I felt MUCHO better....I'm not the only one. So relax, talk yourself into buying stuff that you don't know anything about...you're not alone!! ![]() |

Tony Jaa is amazing!!! all of his stunts are just insane to watch....i'm thinking that is the only reason to get these 2.....all of the action and @$$ kicking that would go on!! |

I do it all the time. The worst is catalog titles (including ones I already owned on HD DVD!) that are $20 or more when they first come out.
Like I really, really want Fear and Loathing, but I just don't know if I want to drop that much on the movie again. Sometimes I can hold off (still waiting on Cliffhanger, Menace 2 Society) but often I just cave in and buy it. Look at it this way (even though it's a ridiculous way to look at it!), you're buying the relaxation of not having to worry about not owning the movie. Yeah, the words of a true addict. |

I usually do research before I blind buy. At the very least I will check Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB to get an idea of what people think of the movie.

I have blind-bought a bunch of movies before, and I'm usually satisfied. These days, I'm toning it down quite a bit, partly because I have so many movies as it is, and partly to save money (I previously thought about blind-buying "Pandorum" and "Surrogates," but nah...).
I will blind-buy titles in a franchise that I'm familiar with though, like "Ong Bak 2" (having liked the first one in general; Thai martial arts movies have some of the best fight scenes anyway!! ![]() |

Yes, but for not for the past few months. I have resisted buying even movies I want at high prices (Public Enemies, Gamer, Inglourious Basterds).
After the amazing sales I witnessed during boxing week and into January, I'd be a fool to blind buy at street day prices. |

I bought way too many BDs on impulse when the format wars were going on... Even movies that I don't think I would re-buy if I had the chance all over again...
During those days, there were a lot of BOGO sales going on...and I just bought them for the simple reason that it seemed "cheap"... Stupid, stupid, stupid... <sigh>... I gotta stop the insanity... I am still buying stuff "because it's a good deal"... I have to keep reminding myself that it's only a good deal if I would have bought it for a higher price...but am getting a bargain as a result of a sale... If I bought it, and never would have bought it otherwise...I'm not SAVING anything... I am SPENDING! |
