Hey guys, just a quick question, a friend of mine asked me if I knew anyone interested in a Rotel pre pro model # Rsp-1098 would there be any reason a HT buff would be interested in this processor considering it doesn't accept DTS and the likes? Just curious.

Many HT buffs like two-channel music and also own LP's.

![]() ![]() How do you mean that the RSP-1098 doesn't accept DTS and the likes? The 1098 is a Home theater processor that decodes core DTS and dolby digital codecs. If you meant the hi-rez audio codecs such as DTS-HD/MA and Dolby TrueHD, then you are correct in your assessment. But it does have 7.1 analog inputs. So if your bluray player can decode the hi rez codecs (and most of blu ray players now have that ability) you can send the signal to the processor via PCM allowing you to enjoy the higher bit rate audio. As far as video processing is concerned, most of the RSP-1098's lack HDMI inputs. The 1098's built at the end of it's production run came equipped with the HDMI inputs. With the non-HDMI (earlier) models, modification can be made at the factory to incorporate HDMI (3 in/1 out), but either way, the HDMI inputs will only accommodate the video signal for switching, not audio. The inputs stand alone in function, so there's no up-converting component video and/or composite to HDMI output. But up-converting composite to component is still in play. By the way, when HDMI is incorporated, it's at the expense of the S-Video input and output board. The HDMI input/output module is installed in the S-Video's input/output location. Although somewhat dated, it's still very capable of producing excellent audio, but by today's standards, very basic when it comes to video switching/processing capabilities. And many Rotel fans would prefer this over the new 15 Series. I would easily pick this up and get my Oppo upgraded to the SE version if the price was right. |

i have the rsp-1068 and use the 6-channel inputs for hi-rez sound. first i used the sony bdp-s550 but now the oppo bdp-83. and now ![]() plus it was better $$$ to use the 6-channel inputs than to buy a new processor 6 cables $100 vs. new processor $2100. |

So you have Rotel gear. I'm insanely jealous! Being that I'm really trying to acquire the RMB-1095 and possibly the RSP-1098! Are you sending the video via HDMI straight to your TV or projector? Not sure of which technology you're using. |

So the Denon occupies the multi-channel-in on the Marantz AVR. It looking like it will be a while before I acquire an HDMI equiped pre-pro or AVR, so I may just replace my current HDMI switcher for the Zektor MAS7.1 3 in 1 out HDMI/7.1 analogue switcher. That way i can get hi-rez audio from both players. What are some of you other components and what speakers are you using? |

![]() Cable management is mind over matter! You have to really want to do it! It can be a tedious task, but it's worth it in the long run. I find the biggest difficulty most have, is taking the first step. And what is that you ask? Unplugging and disconnecting the whole system. ![]() They have excellent examples of proper cable management. Mine in comparison is amateur-ish at best. Anyway, if you have any questions, I'll be more than happy to help, if I can! |
