Default Fifth Element DVD versus Blu

I have already double-dipped on the Fifth Element. I bought the original DVD release and then bought the "ultimate" (or whatever it was called) version that had all the extras. The question is: Is there enough of a difference between the Blu version and the DVD version (which had awesome PQ) in terms of picture quality and sound quality to warrant a purchasing this movie a third time? Thanks!

If you'd like to decide for yourself on the image upgrade: German Comparison

Or here is a reviewer's opinion:

Quote:
The Superbit was good in its day – very good. So good that the announcement that Blu-ray was going to lead with that title a year ago was met with loud "Huzzahs!" in the belief that a high definition version could end the format war before it began. Alas -the rest, as they say, is history. It was not to be. Then, to the amazement of all of us in Fantasyland, Sony decided to re-master the title. And not only that, but are offering a free exchange program for us poor souls who leaped before testing the water. Was it worth the trouble? There are noticeable improvements in sharpness (apparent even in these low-res reproductions shot with a digital camera) and color: the reddish cast that marred the original BD is gone, and a more alive, more dynamic image results.

Dude theres a huge difference in both PQ & AQ between the dvd & Blu. Totally worth buying again in my opinion. One of the nicer looking blus and it has PCM & True HD audio tracks. So you can compare and see if you think they sound different.

I too have many copies of the various formats.

Let me put it this way.

The difference is between saying "Wow this looks great...they did an amazing job" on the superbit dvd and just sitting there drooling like you've binged on smack for 6 days straight in front of the Blu-ray.

Seriously...bring a rag.

Here is my experience. I have the Superbit DVD and the remastered Blu. On a 1080p 100-in screen viewed from 9.5 feet, there is no contest between the Superbit DVD and the remastered Blu.

If you are watching on a small screen from a typical viewing distance then you may not need to upgrade. I think the Ultimate version you have used the SB DVD master.

Considering it can be had at Walmart for around $13...it should pretty much be a staple in every collection.

I'd definitely pick it up if I were you. I did and the PQ/AQ are amazing. It's one of my favorite Sci Fi movies and the Blu is 10x's better than the DVD. Wait until you see the close up of the president's face

Fifth Element is one of the best Blu-rays, period. If you do not buy it you will have your membership revoked.

LOL! I actually enjoyed his performance in the Fifth. He's more annoying in the Rush Hour films.

Best $10 I ever spent on a Blu-ray. The Fifth Element is amazing on Blu-ray.

Man, that's a toss up! His constant shrieking in Fifth Element still gives me nightmares!

To the OP, yes this movie is a fabulous upgrade in all aspects (the re-mastered version) and very worthy of a purchase.

The remastered BD is absolutely fantastic. It was the very 1st BD I ever bought and I was very impressed with it. Definitely worth the triple dip!
