The high definition format wars heat up

In a seesaw battle between high definition formats Blu-ray and HD DVD, things are heating up as the stakes get higher. HD DVD with its first-to-market and less expensive $500 players entered the market and took the early lead while Blu-ray players came out a little later at a staggering cost close to $1000. But Sony dumped the PlayStation 3 on the market at a staggering loss of $2 billion dollars and changed the tide of war.

Nothing new there, but good read nonetheless. To be honest, I don't to much give a damn about the Transformers movie....Spiderman is what won me over even before I bought my Blu Ray player (PS3), it's the future blockbuster movies that in my opinion that will tilt the scales one way or another....

sony should just crush hd dvd with mass releases of titles. I know it must take time to master in hd and put on a disc, but if they could tap into fox and disney a little more, also themselves. I want starshiptroopers asap. I think the amount of discs with some cuts on standalone prices, and hd dud would be no competition.

Agreed

To that I would also add that I hope Sony releases the firmware update to upgrade the PS3 to take advantage of those BD-J features soon. That way warner would release some of its biggest movies (matrix trilogy, superman, batman begins) sooner and those would give a serious boost to BR sales.
