New Denon S-5BD Receiver with Built in Blu-ray Player

This looks to be a cool receiver/blu-ray player... My experience has been Denon makes some good equipment. How about the Denon blu-ray players, any good?

Not at $1800! I used to own an Onkio reciever with a built in DVD player, but was selling for around $3-400 at the time!

It's pretty fully featured, but for the $1,799.00 (MSRP) price tag, you could easily put together a more robust combination of BD player and receiver - even from Denon - with 7.1 channels over this unit's 5.1 configuration. 5.1 is a bit disappointing in this unit, considering that Blu-ray offers discrete 7.1 audio, and it has the player built-in (at least it's Profile 2.0). Plus, the amplifier output is "rated" at 75 watts per channel @ 0.7% THD - at 4-ohms. Even if this was actual watt-output, I suspect its output at bout 40-50 wpc @ 8-ohms. Realistic values will likely be lower.

Definitely more of a "lifestyle" product, more suited to a lower-profile theater, such as a secondary "bedroom" setup. It will surely find a few homes, but I doubt it will be a Denon staple. Though the integration of the player and amplifier is decidedly convenient, it is simply too costly for the return in performance, IMHO.

It just seems like the people that would be spending this kind of money (going after a quality product) would be against the whole more in one box idea. Esp. the audiophile nuts. Maybe each section is separately enclosed in copper...
