why would they? Regular DVDs look great on a small screen. You would not get anywhere near high resolution on a small LCD... They already have a hard enough time releasing a 42" 1080P screeen.

I commented on this earlier. It's called an iPod.

Nobody cares about HiDef on a 5 inch screen.

If they do not make some kind of portable player, then how will they replace the DVD? The average person will want something that they can play in their home and on the road; especially with children. If everything doesn't play blu-ray at some point, then the dvd will never be replaced in the future.

I don't think we will see portable players until Blu-ray becomes much more mainstream. HDM is still a very nitche market and the main benefit to the consumer will not be noticable on such small screen. The only advantage would be that you won't have to double dip on your collection.

Managed copy. You download that version to a flash drive and just plug it in

I think it was Target that just did something like that. Buy 300, get a coupon code for a free iPod/PSP version

Completley agree. I have kids and a Honda Odyssey with DVD......I have to buy both DVD and BD versions of some movies......of course, maybe this is a good thing....I'd rather have them mangle the DVD versions rather than the BD version....

Running into that problem now. I am buying all my new movies in BD and when the family goes on trips they have nothing new to watch. I refuse to buy another DVD again since BD is the future. I would pay a lot of money for a portable unit and I also plan on buying a BD camcorder as well. Hitachi just had two units announced recently that I will be interested in.
