Question The state of the DVR

Okay, so I bought a TiVo HD last July, which was a definite improvement over my Motorola cable box. With the MyDVR Expander hooked up, I always have something like 400 shows just waiting around in case there's nothing on, which was the biggest improvement over the old box.

However, I hate the SD interface. Yes, HATE it. I have thousands of dollars invested in home theater equipment and when I'm browsing the guide or my recordings, it feels like I have something from the 80s hooked up to my fancy system.

Not to mention the speed of the guides, searches and lists: they just can't keep up with me. Look at this chart, there are two iPhones with more horse power than my whole cable box!

So somewhere on these forums I hear about Moxi and it's HD interface and boy do I get excited! Until I read a few reviews:
Engadget Moxi Review
Gizmodo Moxi Review
Some dude Moxi Review

So I didn't buy a Moxi, even though the interface is VERY important to me, I'd really like things to look good. Now TiVo Premier is coming out: TiVo Premier. I can transfer my TiVo subscription to the new box and put my TiVo HD on ebay, which is probably what I'll do.

But before April and the new TiVo gets here, I thought I would ask what other people are doing. There's a new Cablecard adapter for the PC with 4 tuners in and the newest Moxi has 3 tuners. I am quite often FORCED to watch something from my recordings because TiVo has 2 recordings going so more tuners would be nice. But my cable company had to make 3 trips out just to get the TiVo working and I'm not sure I want to see how they handle a HTPC. The Moxi, of course, we've already discussed.

I live in an apartment and can't do Dish or DirecTV so even if they have awesome boxes, that's a no-go for me. So what are people doing who hate the current crop of DVRs? I assume everyone just lives with their cable provider's box or a TiVo, but I thought I would ask in case I'm missing something.

Moxi actually is quite nice.

The reviews you linked are actually quite old. Moxi has released several updates that super-ceded those reviews.

Moxi has a clear advantage over Tivo with the live streaming to the Moxi Mates. Furthermore, online scheduling is much better.

There is an active discussion on the Moxi here.

Hope this helps.
