Default What I'd do if I was Sony...

Make the remaining 60gig ps3's $399(they are selling like freaking hotcakes now).

Make the 80 gig $549 with Motorstorm. Once the 60 gigs are gone, make it $499 with Motorstorm, $449 without.

The number of BR hardware out there would not be funny.

That's cutting kind of low for a nice machine like that.

These suggestions I like, although I'd add that I hope the rumor of a barebones 20 gig unit at $399 around Christmas time hopefully happens. Sony needs to have something in play at that lower price point IMO.

I agree they need something below the 80gig. Keep the 20gig and price it right along or near the 360 20 gig and youve got a winner. Plus more hardware penetration.

If they are selling "like freaking hotcakes", as you put it, why would they want to lower the price? That makes no sense.

And then you, as Sony, would expect anyone out there to pay $150 dollar premium for an extra 20 gigs of disk space and a game? Come on man, get serious here.

Id drop it to $399 from $499 to move them faster which equals more potential BD buyers.

You get serious, has CE pricing ever made sense? Uh no.

My goal would be to move the 60 gigs out to get rid of the stock and get them in homes, then lower the price on the 80 gig (since its all thats left) to something that makes sense.

I understand what most of you are saying, but if I were Sony.
PS3 is fine, so I won't worry about it right now.
I would focus a little more on Blu-ray standalone players, trying to get them as low as possible. Targeting all the people who don't want a gaming machine (even though it doesn’t have to be)

HD-DVD claims to sell more standalone players, so if we take that away from them what does that leave HD-DVD? Not much to brag about.

Then again I'd wait for the 1.1 standard before I really started to push the stand alone players... you don't want your average customer buying something only to be told that it won't properly play all the discs because they got it too soon. (That's what the early adopters are for)

Pushing players is a great idea, but youre right about 1.1 too.

It still amazes me HDDVD loves to brag about the A1 and A2 price. I wonder how many bought it without realizing itd only do 1080i.
