Default Any theater in Bedrooms?

i was thinking of finishing my partially finished basement but id end up losing a lot of room down there and costing much more..so im thinking of putting my theater up in the bedroom which is 19'x12'...the basement area would have been 19x10...the bedroom is already carpeted and walls are all finished...with a little paint it'll be all set to go...good idea?...or would it be better to finish the smaller room in the basement?

I use to have a little something in my bedroom and recently decided to upgrade make my bedroom to a small theater.

I already had a 37" HD LCD
Upgraded from a DVD upconvertor to a Sony S-350 Bluray player.
Upgraded from a HTiB to a Denon AVR-789.

I havn't upgraded the speakers yet.

But the bedroom is for me and my girl....

If you have and expect some company over you would rather have them in a different room than your bedroom.

More then likely you will buy different speakers for the guest theater area or your bedroom. You will have to take that into consideration.

I feel large speakers and 7.1 surround in the bedroom is over kill.

I think if you can certainly make the gear you have work in a room that sized...... it's narrow though, so for better speaker placement, I'd recommend two rows of seats (two each) with a riser.... if you try to do a "Three-person-Sofa" for instance..... you would have to place your speakers directly against the walls, and you don't want to do that.....

if the basement has a concrete slab sub-floor it'd probably be better for sound isolation... but if that isn't a concern... then by all means, the bedroom would work fine.

Everything i have currently is in my bedroom. I'm even thinking about upgrading my tv from a 40" to a 50" soon. Unfortunately my room isn't large enough to accommodate a nice projector.

I have a 50" Lg, ps3 and Klipsch RF-62 5.1 in my room and i love it, it's so much easier to keep as dark as i want too.

ok cool...just to clearify...i will be dedicating the bedroom for the theater..it will not be our actual sleeping room...its just the girl and me living there..and two big bedrooms we would not be using...so i figure..why spend money of finishing the basement, then having to heat and cool a third level when i could just use the upstairs bedroom..(which is 2 feet wider)

Then this is not a bedroom theater, but a dedicated theater the size of a bedroom!

Yellowblanket has a kick ass bedroom HT - as does this other chap with an all-Maple veneer speaker set, but I can't remember his exact name right now...

I would recommend finishing off the basement, so you can have a dedicated theater space that isn't your bedroom. Finishing off your basement wouldn't actually be too expensive, and it would certainly increase the value of your home.

it isnt going to be my bedroom...its just a bedroom that is going unused and happens to be 2 feet wider than the basement space...i probably should have explained this a little better in my initial statement...i was mainly curious if others had turned unused bedroom into a dedicated theater room

Lol.

I'm thinking of creating a bedroom theatre because this new house is a bit tight for such a large family.

Going to do some figures and rethink of a setup.

My Attic theater was created from an attic that was originally finished to be used as a bedroom.... but I decided to use it rather than the other bedrooms/basement for pretty much the same reasons you're considering...

1) The basement would have cost a lot to finish, and we don't need the room...

2) We have 6 bedrooms, and it's just the wife, me, and our young son (one on the way now though)

3) Used the attic-bedroom rather than the other ones because it doesn't share any walls with any other rooms, so containing the sound was easier in this room..... and we actually use one of the other bedrooms for a living room area.....

Although the room is oddly shaped, it's 15X12 or so..... so it's "Big enough" The angled walls/ceiling are good for the acoustics, but tough when trying to do a projection screen since it cuts down on throw distance.

We will be doing a home theater in our bedroom. Mostly cause my wife and sometimes myself would like to enjoy popcorn in the bed and then we can just fall alseep during the movie. Even going to have a adjustable bed (like the hospital style but cali king and much more comfortable) so we can tilt the head up like it is a seating position then down when it is sleepy time. Bed will cost more than the PJ.

Definitely a no for me to having a theater in the bedroom, but I suppose converting an unused bedroom will work fine. I don't even care for having a tv in the bedroom (although I do). There are other more important things that go on in a bedroom than watching tv or movies. What's next for the bedroom, a mini fridge? LOL

Look at my gallery. That's my bedroom. The room size is approximately 12'x14' but there is less room than that when you take into account the furniture and bed. I love it though. Besides the garage, it is the best place to have the theater.
