Default Cable vs. netflix/Blockbuster

Has anyone completely canceled their cable service in return for the unlimited rental services that NF & BB provide?
I'm thinking about canceling my cable since I'm paying over $100 a month for it and just use the Blockbuster program. I figure it'd save a few dollars a month that could go towards more blus or towards my HT.
what yall think?

I havent watched TV shows (aired) in many many years. If a show is excellent, I Netflix or buy it. Movies through Netflix run me about 92 cents each (including Blu).

I cant stomach commercial breaks.

I watch cable because a lot of the shows I watch aren't on disc and because my ISP is my cable provider anyway.

I'm contemplating on cancelling my Direct TV now that i have a 360 in the home. I have "Playon" running on my PC which enables me to access Hulu, Netflix, Youtube, ect. I also have an OTA antenna which allows me to view primetime shows in HD for free.

When I signed up for Netflix two years ago, I dropped Showtime, then the Starz Package, and about a year later, HBO was taken out of the mix as well. Haven't missed them although I lost touch with "Dexter". Now with the 360, I was able to catch up on Season 2 of the series and I was quite content. Paying 95 bucks a month for a large chunk of channels that I never watch is really kickin me in the arse and with this new edition to my system, it's a relief.

I have, but since practically the only rental service via mail up here is controlled by the same company that I used to get my cable from {Rogers} I don't bother going with that and rent from the local Blockbuster.

In short, canceled cable, and couldn't be happier.

Canceling cable sounds like a good idea, but if I do that, I will lose movies like teen wolf, Howard the duck, and they live amongst others. I have about 1.5 terabytes of movies on my DVR and external HD.

Here's a little devil's advocate for you.

How much will you save not paying the legacy costs of paying cable every month just to keep those movies when you can go out and purchase them at a cheaper rate than paying for cable over and over month to month?

I understand what you are saying, but I'm torn between having the HD versions of these movies and saving a few dollars. Right now having HD copies is winning. My contract with dish ends in April so I will be able to make a more definitve decision then.

I use Netflix, I tried Blockbuster, but you think Netflix has long waits? Think again. The nearest BB store near me is over 30 minutes away, so Netflix for my money is the best deal.

I've been thinking about this, but the thing that I wouldn't be able to live without is the sports. I went a year without cable/satellite and having to go to the bar hoping they were showing the game I wanted to watch just sucked.

I just don't think that cable broadcast HD is anywhere close to Blu-Ray HD, so my advice is to get rid of the dish, get one of the HD antennas and maybe an Apple TV or something.

I have Dish network and they only broadcast in 720p. I'm sick of the cable but i'm not sure if i'll be able to handle life without cable

Keeping stuff on the PVR is all well and good, but when you factor in how much it costs to 'rent' a movie on your PVR per month, it's rather sickening unless you have a ton of external hard drives.

If I lived near a city, I would have gone with a peer to peer cable, but rural areas tend to be unsatisfactory with cable, and satelite has too much macroblocking for my taste. The real reason I don't (and won't) have cable is the price. For netflix, it's fun to watch instant movies, but the quality and speed for it isn't satisfactory for me. I still use netflix for Blus and DVDs thank you.
