that unit does not have dolby true HD. yes it does hdmi video pass through but not audio. This unit does Dolby Digital, Pro Logic, Pro Logic II and DTS, so you will need to run opticals to get your audio to run through it.

It can receive Linear PCM and play the lossless audio.

Default My friend has that receiver and had the same problem

Optical does pcm and dts so just use an optical cord.
There are some great deals on amazon.com if you do not have one.
They are cheap the THX certified optical cable by monster is only $16.00 for six feet so you can get a good one around $9.00.
Hope this helped.

Optical is only capable of 2.0 PCM.

...You should set your player to bitstream and just enjoy standard Dolby and Dts.

I got a HT-SS360 as part of TV/BD/HTiB combo.

The SS360 does HDMI multi-channel LPCM audio and HDMI video switching. It is typical quality of most cheap HTiB systems.

Use an HDMI cable from the PS3 to the SS360 and set the slim to only send LPCM.

Again sound quality is typical. I would suggest placing the sub as close as possible to the fronts since a lot of lower range dialog bleeds to the sub.

If it had not been thrown in with my TV I would have never paid the $300 for it.

I havea BD-S360 and just ordered this HTiB. Got a great deal for a bedroom system. Do you just set the BD player to "Mix" so it will decode the audio and send it to the reveiver? Does that work for all types of audio? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

I think if you set it to 'Mix' it reverts to the lossy tracks to mix with the secondary audio. I believe the only way the player will decode the lossless TrueHD and MasterAudio tracks is if the mix option is disabled.

Wait, I heard the receiver does BOTH audio and video. Is what you say true?
This is the system I'm looking to get but not use with a PS3 but rather just my normal blu-ray player and it seems to be one of the best, cheap HTIB systems that has a receiver doing both audio and video

The post you responded to is incorrect. The HT-SS360, like its predecessor the HT-SS2300 (which I own), does HDMI audio as well as video. That means it *will* accept TrueHD & DTS-HD MA when decoded to LPCM by your BD player. All PS3s (fat AND slim) will do that; so does my stand-alone player.

What stand-alone player do you have? The big question is whether or not it will decode TrueHD & DTS-HD MA to LPCM. Many cheap players today will only bitstream them; if that's you, you should NOT buy this HTIB.

That's good to know. I've looked and this is the only, budget price HTIB, that has a receiver that does both audio and video

I currently have the NS-WBRDVD. It's an Insignia Blu-Ray player.

Got the system and like it. Will do fine for now and then become my bedroom system in a couple years. My BD-BX2(BD-S360) seems to decode the audio fine. The BD display always shows DTS-HD 3/2.1 or True HD or whatever, but the display also seems to only show a transfer rate of 48kHz.... is that correct? Shouldn't it be 96 if properly set up or am I mistaken? Can my receiver simply not handle that or is there setup issues?

Here's the BDP-BX2's manual (not QUITE the same as the BDP-S360); look at pages 44 & 45. To have 96 kHz or 192 kHz output:
  • Audio Output Priority must be HDMI (default).
  • Audio (HDMI) must be Auto (default).
  • BD Audio Setting must be Direct (NOT default).

Yeah, thats what I have as my settings. My receiver should play that no matter what, right? Could it be the blu-ray? Should all HD audio have 96 kHz output? Kind of at a loss here/ have know idea what I'm doing.....

Thanks for replying BTW.

Not all HD audio has 96 kHz; in fact, a lot of it is 48 kHz (same as DVD). The big deal is it's either uncompressed (LPCM) or lossless compression (TrueHD, DTS-HD MA), so barring any change in sample rate and/or bit depth it's identical to the studio master.
