A theater here in LA was planning on screening a print of Chungking Express as a midnight movie this spring but had to cancel because the distributor pulled the print. The theater programmer stated it was because the distributor is doing a complete 4K restoration of the film and to look for a new theatrical screening of Chungking Express in SEPTEMBER 2018.

This will be followed by a new physical release (whether that is blu ray and/or 4K Ultra HD I can't confirm atm though Criterion was hinted at).

So don't pay those crazy prices fot the old Criterion copy of Chungking Express and wait for the new remastered version. I was informed more details will be avilable in August 2018. This will be one of several of Wong Kar-wai's films that are being remastered in 4K.
