Default Black sub(s) with different colored speakers?

Anyone else noticed that it seems to be popular to have your five main speakers to be cherry/maple/rosenut finish and have the subwoofer(s) be black. I've really noticed it in the member's gallery of home theater shots on the forum. Just an observation.

most sub mfgs only make black subs, of course you can look at Hsu subs and find different finishes to suit most tastes.

Now that you mentioned it, I did go thru the gallery and I see what you are saying. I had black subs before and my speakers were black by the same manufacture. This time I have rosenut speakers with rosenut subs and they are from different makers.

I already had my speakers and since they were rosenut, that was also part of the reason I choose SVS. My other thought for subs were Sunfire and it didn't offer any other finishes other then black.

You have me wondering why it’s that way with most setups with just black subs. It seems that a few subs makers offer different finishes.

Or is it that black goes with everything. lol

Offhand, I can only think of Martin Logan, Hsu, and Klipsch making various models of natural wood speakers. I think Yamaha had natural wood in one of theirs too...maybe Velodyne...

But they're not the norm, most are black, maybe so they're easier for guys to hide from their wives behind potted plants or something.

Yep! Oyde finish and killing most of the pretties!

If I did it again, I would try to match the finish. I still wouldn't call my sub an eyesore.

With my cylinder SVS sub, there is a nice, black felt cover that surrounds the outer shell. I assume it would be extremely easy to simply make a brown cover and an accompanying brown base to match most wood speakers? I wonder why I haven't seen that option?

My current "temporary" sub is black.... my last sub was black.... my new sub will depend on what they make it in, depending on what sub I decide on......

I'll go one further....

My front 3 speakers are Rosenut....

My 2 surrounds are "Wenge" since B&W doesn't offer the 600's in Rosenut

and when I got a rear surround, I ended up buying it in Black.....

So I have three speaker finishes just on the 6.0 part...... Maybe I'll buy a maple sub

It sounds "terrible" but nobody even notices.... the speaker finishes work with the room, and aren't distracting, so that's all that matters. (Not that the rest of the room isn't distracting)

You talking about all these different colors remind me of back when I was in high school and this kid I knew had worn just about all the "B" colors.

He had on :

Black and Blue shirt
Burgundy pants
Beige belt
Brown shoes

When I brought it to his attention, I never seen him wear that combo again

I have black speakers and a black sub. Only thing that isnt black is my H15.

But it wouldn't matter too much to me, it's dark when I'm watching movies : )

By the way, I'm no where near a snob, but I like everything to match in color and style.

I wouldn't say I paid extra to make sure my surrounds matched my front three, but I was offered to pay alot less for the previous model, which I didn't buy.

They still would have matched but not in the same way. The look in finishes between the MA RSFX and RXFX is widely different.

Yet a person could say that the black sub match the black trim around the HDTV.
