Arrow Warner Bros. Hitting Reset Button on 'Mortal Kombat'

This is one potential new franchise that could be awesome if handled correctly, since the first go round failed. I don’t really care about the “Outworld” or any of that crap. I expect to see a character rip off someone’s head with the spinal cord still attached. The movie doesn’t need stars. It doesn’t need cutting-edge special effects. It needs spinal cords.

And remember: ABACABB.

Bloody Disgusting received word that Warner Bros. Pictures has been looking to redo Mortal Kombat with Oren Uziel in talks to write. Based on Midway's popular 1992 video game, the franchise follows the best fighters from around the globe who are summoned to an island to compete in a tournament whose outcome will determine the fate of the entire planet. Uziel's Shimmer Lake made the 2009 black list, which features the best unproduced screenplays around Hollywood. Johnny Cage was modeled after Jean-Claude Van Damme. No word on the progress of the remake, but we'd like to see a hard "R" version with some actual f*cking fatalities.

Now this is one reboot I don't mind! If they handle it right and get the right people it could be awesome.

I liked the first Mortal Kombat film, I thought it was cheesy and violent enough and the Sonja Blade and Katana actresses were hot.

If it is bloody and R-rated as well as being given a serious script with no comedy then it should do well. The game got attention from being so violent and the film based on it should be no different. The first failed from the start because of the B movie treatment as well as the toned down violence. I still enjoy the first movie but it failed to meet my expectations since I was a huge fan of the game.

All those buttons to choose from RE: Mortal Kombat Movie... and they skip the more pertinent "Delete" button!

Cannot think of another movie I would like to watch less than a new Mortal Kombat movie!

In summary:

VIDEO GAME ADAPTATIONS SUCK!!!

Yeah, the first one is probably the best video game movie ever made. It has just the right amount of cheese that people who played the game got it.

Christopher Lambert is perfect for Raiden, I hope he makes it back.

Witht he right cast it could be fantastic.

Jason Scott Lee as Liu Kang... if he is still in good shape.
Johny Cage - dude from Burn Notice
Vinnie Jones -
Jason Statham - Kano
Chow Yun Fat - dude that throws his hat
Monica Belluci - which character (Shiva?)

I was thinking the samething that the "Delete" button was the more obvious choice for this franchise. I never understand why studios take these mature games a dumb them down to a 12 year old level thinking that is who actually would go pay to see this kind of thing.

If they are actually going to remake it get good martial arts actors for it like Jet Lee & Ziyi Zhang.

Glad I am not alone on this front!

I shudder when I remember Sony have plans to take Nathan Drake and the marvelous Uncharted games to the big screen!

if it's done right,

i would throw my love out for MK any day.. huge fan of it..

but warner bros. and legendary pictures should do a MK reboot? make it really Violent but also have a good plot and story
not all fans wanna see a film about fighting as it is in the game
make it more story depth
and get the right Charecters to potray the Film Correctly

but Sub Zero & Scorpion alone..

The first Mortal Kombat movie is great. It is by far the best video game movie adaption.

And yes, the storyline would really matter to me in this reboot. I see no point in a completely mindless movie with nothing but spinal cords being ripped out of bodies.

yeah. i mean infact i would want the films violence toned down a little bit
make it more of a fighting film.
guns and all but also cool blood effects and stuff
we really dont wanna see Spines getting ripped out. or arms getting chopped off that might seem cool! but who the hell is gonna see it? a bunch of fans yes. but critics and other viewers will stick to hostel.

it has alot of potential and in order to buy the viewers they would need
the right cast. the right script. the right plot. and the right scenes..

I thought the first Mortal Kombat movie was alright. The second was complete trash! I wouldn't mind seeing a reboot.
