Default is the HD DVD version of 300 as grainy as the BLU RAY???

IGN gave the HD version 10/10 for video, hows that so when it is a very grainy movie, unless the HD version is better?

If you saw it in theatres, it was really grainy.

Default The "300 is grainy!!" thread

Since I've checked about a dozen threads in the forum so far, and more than half of them touch on this subject, I'll make this thread and hopefully it will stay on the home page and everyone will post in here instead of 50 different threads.

Ahem . . .

300 is grainy. It was shot on 35mm film, which is inherently grainy, and was shot that way because that's exactly what the director wanted it to look like. The graininess of the film is a stylistic decision and in no way reflects a lack of quality on the Blu-ray. Despite what you think you saw, it was grainy in the theater as well.

Looked great to me as well. 35mm film is grainy but more was intentionally added, from what I read in some reviews. I have absolutely no issue with it, however.

Yeah, I did notice that it was grainy in certain places but I also knew that it was filmed that way. BUT, the scenes that were meant to look nice looked fantastic! An example being when the persian messengers approach and the sunshine in the background. It looked so clean. Had a great 300 watching party.

BStecke...

I'm so glad you started this thread!!!!

The movie is supposed to have grain people...there is nothing wrong with your Blu-Ray, TV, PS3, or standalone player!!!!!!

I'll even go out on a limb and say that this is the best looking WB Blu-Ray since "The Departed".

I remember it being grainy in the theaters so today when i put it on for some friends that came to watch it i first explaiend to them that the grain was part of the movie and not a blu-ray problem. They didnt really notice the grain and just loved the movie with the surround sound at max.

POINT ON: I went in thinking over the top grain because of everything that was being said... the shots like in the wheat field and such looked AMAZING not grainny. Only on a few scenes other than that I was shocked to not see much maybe its just my tv or maybe its other peoples but by far one of the best shot movies maybe not compared to a superman returns hd super cam, or POTC , and 007 in its own respects it was by far one of the best movies of the year

Well, thanks to this thread there is still hope with my PS3. I was expecting one of the most state of the art BluRays ever to grace my TV and I was quite upset to notice the HUGE amount of grain. Very disturbing and upsetting. I was getting ready to launch my PS3 with 300 out the window of my car while driving down the highway...

Thanks for the explanation...

I certainly don't remember seeing grain in the theater. I must have had a "grain" free showing. And my eyes were so tightly glued to the screen I could hardly see when it was over.

god another bunch that are like oh man this isnt POTC bad quality ... YOU cant compare things that werent ment to be compared... its like trying to compare 190 proof everclear grain alcohol to beer and making the argument "I hate beer cause it doesnt get me drunk like 190 proof everclear"... the two werent ment to be compared
