Default What do you think ???

I have 2 Sony receivers

STR-DN1000
STR-DB940

I want to connect the both receivers to the same set of Infinity speakers

STR-DN1000 will be used for movie purpose only, due to HDMI connections (2 bluray players S500 & S550 and HD receiver). Thus I will benefit from the new audio HD codecs (the 5.1 setup for speakers)

STR-DB940 will be used for music since it is more versatile concerning its audio digital inputs (optical & coaxial for CD, MD, DAT) and analog (tape) (this will be connected only to the front tower speakers Infinity Primus 360).

Of course, only one receiver will be powered at a time. What do you think about the connections? Any chance to harm the speakers and/or receivers.

Thanks

Talking about running two sets of speaker wires "Together" to the speakers, then to separate AVRs?????

DO NOT DO THAT..... Why is one more versatile than the other? You can always change inputs on the AVR you know

EDIT:

Why are you running 2 Blu-ray players?????

Parts express has an a/b switch for speakers.. you can use this to safely hook up 2 receivers to one pair of speakers

I said DB940 is far more versatile in inputs than DN1000 since it has for instance optical & coaxial inputs for MD and DAT which I still use a lot.

BD-S500 was my first BD player, and I like motorized sliding front, the S550 the 2nd BD which is the mostly in use. When we watch 2 movies in a row, then I change the mashine.

Basically, I want the both AVRs to use the same front speakers while the DN1000 will use all in 5.1 setup. The question was if using one AVR with speakers ALSO connected to a 2nd AVR (in standby) will hurt the last one, or itself, or the speakers themselves.???

If you don't use something like what Neogeo suggested then you should not do it at all. Sending power from one amp into another on stand-by(Since they would both be connected to the same terminal that's what you're doing) could cause serious problems.

That a/b switch doesn't look like it supports 5.1 or any HI-Def surround modes just front and rear.

Probably I did not explain carefully.

Below is the setup I would like to do:

Amp1 ---> speakers <--- Amp2

Would be Amp2 (in standby) be harmed when I operate Amp1 (and viceversa)?
Would the signal from Amp1 (in work) pass (through the speakers) to the Amp2 (in standby)?

I hope is better now, isn't it?

Actually, based on the responses you received, I think people understood your intent the first time.

What I and others seem to be wondering, is why exactly you want to keep both receivers in play in the same setup. It seems to me there has to be a way to manage your input requirements with one receiver, especially since you're looking for digital audio connections, and not HDMI inputs.

Chaining two receivers to the same speaker, even with a receiver on standby, can potentially damage your electronics.

Managing all with STR-DN1000 would be the best, yet this AVR does not have many audio optical/coaxial inputs apart from BD, TV, DVD and SAT. That means I have to assign, say SAT optical input for my MD, meaning I should use the SAT button on the remote to play to MD, isn't it. This receiver does not have digital audio input even for SACD/CD. Now is hooked to my SACD via analog.
IMO this AVR is dedicated more for video (4 HDMI are fine for my 2 BD players and SAT receiver) than for music audition. Optical you have only for TV, SAT and BD and a coaxial for DVD, NOTHING else. The rest should then be hooked via analog, but also here you do not have much to choose. Please have a look also to the attached photo.

The "take home message" for me was indeed given, a potential damage is there. Thank you.

That's sad.
SONY could've given you a few more, especially with all that empty space.
My SONY has 5 toslink & 3 coax.
