I received my Hong Kong edition of ROAD TO PERDITION today from YesAsia; a slight bummer that it does not come with the cool "rain effect" slipcover offered with the UK edition (no slipcover at all, just to be clear), but at least the cover art is the best of any edition I've seen (matches the UK's but cleaner, without any real estate-eating banners). The important part is the disc itself, though, right?, and this disc delivers. There are several new extra features to be found, and only the photo gallery from the DVD has gone missing (no biggie); there's still no trailer to be found, though, which was also missing on the DVD, which I always find to be unfortunate. The image and sound of the film are exemplary; the only issue that threw me off initially is some very obvious gate weaving, especially during the opening credits, the likes of which I thought would never have been seen on a film of this recent vintage. However, when I A/B'ed it with my DVD from 2003, lo and behold, the exact same weaving was evident. I'm stunned to see it on a movie less than a decade old, but at least it's consistent with what we've always had on home video; it appears to be germane to whatever source 20th Century Fox keeps returning to to mint their home video editions. Whether you go UK or Hong Kong for this release, you won't be disappointed and it sure beats waiting another three months for the identical U.S. version but with uglier cover art...
