hey guys, I may not own as awesome 7.1 surround system as most of you, but because I'm a singer I own a really good soundcard and good reference-speakers.
So I only want stereo sound (because I only have 2 speakers, tho really really good ones), however since my soundcard is 24bit/192khz I want to make use of the extra bit-rate that TrueHD/DTS has to offer. Is there any way I can use the HD track when watching my BR movies? atm I suspect my computer is actually using the 48khz track, altho I don't know how to check, anyone? I use PowerDVD codec through Media Player Classic (altho I have access to TotalMedia as well) My soundcard is Konnekt 8 I've searched through the entire forum, but all I can find are threads about how difficult it is to get all the 8 channels out, but again I only want stereo so is there perhaps hope for me? |

You need the right codec to get hooked up with your Soundcard. What's your OS version? What type of speakers you're using? Optical? RCA? You may download K-Lite Codec , Win7Codecs which are compatible with your soundcard. Your sound driver , has it been implemented in HD sound compatibility?

To put it simply, it's not going to work. Here's what you need to do Dolby True HD/DTS HD:
1. Power DVD 9 or Arc Soft Total Media Theater 3 2. Sound card with a multi-channel analog output or a video card that supports it, like the ATi 5xxx series. |

I think there is not have soundcard and program that can convert 5.1 or 7.1 HD sound to stereo now. If program can convert 5.1 - 7.1 HD sound to stereo, but I think it's not HD sound after conversion.
Like Polygon said, you can use Power DVD 9 or Arc Soft Total Media Theater 3 and soundcard that can decode Dolby True HD/DTS HD (ATi 5xxx series, Asus Xonar HDMV, Auzentech HomeTheater HD) to decode Dolby True HD/DTS HD to your 2 speakers, but you will loss other sound channels. |
