![]() kind of surprised the Harry Potter's don't as well since a lot of those fans have school the next day too though... i have no idea why The Town drops on a Friday though. they could have released it this coming tuesday (the 21st) to still make the "pre-christmas" sales ![]() |

That's exactly why. It's smart of Summit to do that.

it is smart, but kind of scary in a way.
when do the films hit theaters? don't they usually come out on wednesdays at midnight? or are they standard fridays as well? because if not, that would be completely redundant ![]() i wonder why they don't do week end releases for other teenager / kids movies (a la Harry Potter series). but all in all like Mike says below, a sale is a sale, so does it really matter if people have to wait an additional 8 hours to buy it? ![]() ![]() |

![]() i guess that makes sense, but most people know releases are Tuesdays and might just wait until then anyway, unknowing of a Friday release. |

It happens only very rarely, and in my experience only in two situations:
1) The first is if it's within a week or so of Christmas, studios will push titles out on random days to try to differentiate from the competition and get some extra last-minute holiday sales. This happens regularly around Christmas. 2) Certain studios (previously only Dreamworks Animation, but now apparently Summit too) feel it gives them a competitive edge regardless of the time of year. Dreamworks Animation always seems to do this - Kung Fu Panda, Monsters vs. Aliens, and this year's How To Train Your Dragon all came out on days other than Tuesday. Summit has released all 3 Twilight movies on a Sunday as well - though they haven't done anything similar for any other movies. |

Legend of the Guardians comes out this Friday as well.
It doesn't make sense to me either, especially for The Town and Legend of the Guardians. They would have sold more copies if they came out yesterday. I would have bought them all yesterday. Instead I have to take another trip Friday to pick up Legend of the Guardians. I managed to get a copy of The Town this afternoon in one of the retail stores (won't say which as to not get them in trouble), which probably wasn't aware that it's not to be stocked until Friday. It can be confusing. |

i used to work at wally world many years ago and i know that for bigger releases (The Town being one) the boxes that contain the movies have writing plastered all over it that says, "DO NOT SELL BEFORE ______" so while i guess some random employee was like, "oh crap, we forgot to put these out last week", the box writing should have been a dead give away. but i'm sure the electronics employees don't care. they don't get in trouble for it.
