Default Shopking's basement theater build

Been wanting to finish our basement for a few years now... But other outside house projects were more important. My wife got pregnant and so I had no choice lol :P We needed the room upstairs that was the office was now going to be the baby room. I was excited for a baby and more excited to finish the basement

Started this project in February. Finished in May. I actually got laid off from my job of almost 7 years right when we were starting. So I was ready to use all the extra time to knock this project out before the baby got here . But I knew that I was going to have to do it on a budget. Glad my dad was able to help, he saved me so time and money.

House was built in 1948. Its a 2 bedroom 1 bath with a 1 acre lot. Its me and my wife's 1st house we bought, and we have put a lot of money and time into it the last 7 years we have lived here.

Excuse some of my blurry pics, my wife was in charge of taking pics lol.

Building a 7.1 system with speaker wire ran through the walls.

Samsung LN55B650 LCD
Panamax 5300
Denon AVR 1912
Fronts - Polk Monitor60 Series II
Center - Polk CS2
Rears - Polk Monitor 30 Series II
Surrounds - Polk Monitor 30 Series II
Sub - BIC Acoustec H100
PS3, Xbox360, Wii

Started with just an empty basement.

The electrical in my basement was all messed up. It was mixed with old wire and new wire, and had junction boxes all over... We fixed all those and made everything right and a new panel.

Got everything framed and the wiring all done. CAN lights mounted tied to a dimmer.

Little office where my washer and dryer were which are now upstairs

Had the sheet rock done by a buddy with texture. My dogs helping lol.

Got the primer put on and ready for paint.

Went with a warm neutral color and it turned out good. The windows in the rooms were replaced a few days after these pics.

Moved my TV and components from upstairs to the downstairs. It was a great feeling after all the hard work.

Setting up the computer in the new office.

Surround speakers opened and tested on my stands.

Right after I got everything hooked and working.

Got 2 posters up a few weeks ago!

It sounds amazing down in the basement, so much better than my setup upstairs. Should of done this a long time ago lol. But its done now and I hope you all like it.

Welcome to the Galleries shopking68,
Your room looks great, very nice job. Now that you are here it will never be "done" but it will look and sound the best it can be.

Looks great! Nice build. Always helpful to have a plan in mind beforehand, and it looks like you've set it up just right.

How did you make those? I've been looking for something similar for my little room. I've found a few on Ebay with the etched acrylic but they seem *way* overpriced. Are yours printed and framed? They look GOOD!

Very Nice, Shopking! And welcome to the HT galleries, also - we all have a lot of fun in here...

I also have a dedicated DIY basement theater room setup at home, although my walls are wood panel and the room has a low drop ceiling, rather than drywall, so it's not quite as nice a finish... When I moved into the house 5 years ago, the room originally had wall to wall carpet, but I got 1-2" of water over the entire basement from Tropical Storm Lee last fall, so I had to tear out all the carpet, many warped wall panels, and all of the wet baseboard and door trim. I replaced the walls and trim, and layed down commercial VCT tiles on the floor instead of carpet. But, it all turned out better in the end -even though I was much poorer after all the reconstruction costs...

Ive seen the ones on ebay you are talking about. They are nice but big $$.

I used this site for the pictures.

http://www.demo-world.eu/logos/

Then I just combined 2 images in photoshop and bought some black frames and then printed them off.

Thanks Frey!

Sounds like you have had your work cut out for you. Glad you were able to get it all done and to your liking!
