I tried using the search feature, guys. But there were so many posts with the word "anime" ...
If there's a link just point me to it and you can close this. On to the question ... Is anime on Blu-ray worth the price versus anime on DVD? I have a decent collection of anime and I was wondering if I should start switching them to blu-ray as I see them released and if it's worth picking up current titles that I like on Blu-ray instead of the cheaper DVDs. Or is there just no significant difference in the visual quality of animated shows on Blu-ray vs. DVD? Thanks for any info, input, or opinions. |

Well the thing about anime on Blu-ray in America is that Funimation is really the only real company putting out Blu-rays in America. Bandai releases 1 like every few months. Funimation's Blu-rays that are upscaled get a lor of criticism with it's fans because of stuff like flitering, DNR, and also most(not all) of their releases don't even have a Dolby TrueHD track for the original Japanese dub only the English dub. Their Blu-rays do look better than their dvds but it's still not top notch. And sometimes their releases don't have every extra that the dvd has. But it's quite a shame that other anime companies are scared of investing into Blu-ray in America with the one the economy is right now and how anime companies in America are dying. My personal opinion is to just support anime on Blu-ray in the states so that other companies will make releases of anime that people really want on Blu-ray. I also notice that if you look around you might even see a Blu-ray anime series going for almost same price as dvd if not less. Just keep checking the official thread about all of the U.S. releases and do your research before buying. |

For most shows honestly it's not gonna make a big difference unless the show was either on film or animated in HD like almost all the shows are being now. SD shows put on BD that are upscales always look like crap when done by North American companies like Heroic Age/D.Gray-Man
I only actually trust 2 companies right now to release good BD anime in America and that is Bandai Visual and Bandai Entertainment. like the poster above said there is alot of info in this thread |
