Although it’s one of those films where it’s amazing how well the puppetry and effects hold up. It didn't make squat on inital release. Good movie though.

To be fair the summer of 82 had quite a lot of pretty good competition.

Conan the Barbarian
Rocky 3
Blade Runner
ET
Firefox
Poltergeist
Star Trek II : The Wrath of Khan
Tron
Friday the 13th part 3
The Road Warrior

That's a pretty decent list of movies to go up against
