Don't you feel badly when you do TV show marathons because it means the episodes will get old even sooner and they will become less and less rewatchable?

It's true that there's a bad feeling once you realize you've seen every episode of a series you really like. But some shows feel so eternal when it comes to reruns. Take Sanford and Son for example. I don't care what episode is on, I will still laugh just as hard as the first time!
Generally, sitcoms are more rewatchable than chronological series. |

For me no matter what show it is and no matter how much I like it I can only watch a certain number of episodes before I have to go cold turkey for awhile. Than I can start watching the episodes again.
As far as movies go, they have rewatch potential if I really really love the movie because I sometimes find that instead of concentrating on the obvious I notice the not too obvious, if that makes any sense. |

![]() For me, the quality and writing of the show, as well as characters you actually care about makes for me being able to watch a show more than once. Also if there is a storyline that is so dense like Lost, everything has to be watched more than once to make any sense at all of the show. |

Yep, I can even watch comedies repeatedly if the situations are good enough, like Seinfeld or Curb.

Well thought out humor usally brings me back again and again and again...
The list of humorshows in this category contains moslty of animated shows like South Park and Family Guy. Though I got too admit all episodes of Entourage has been seen at least 5 times. |

It has to be good, and clever.
I frequently watch MASH and Frasier even though I have seen every episode several times. With dramas, it's usually because I like entering that world. I just finished The Prisoner (1967) for about the tenth time, but first time on blu. I started watching my favorite all time TV show again yesterday - Twin Peaks. The atmosphere of that town interests me (enhanced by the music). The characters are larger than life. It's directed by my favorite director (Lynch). It makes me laugh and it is also genuinely frightening in places. |

I beleive sitcoms are more rewatchable due to humor. I watch Friends all the time and it never gets old. I can't tell you how many times I've seen each episode. Same for Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens, Yes Dear and How I Met Your Mother.
But there are many other shows that I can watch all the time like House, Lost, Entourage and The Twilight Zone. These shows just have that special something for me. |

Difficult to sum up all the elements that make something worth watching repeatedly, but what it CAN'T have is an utterly depressing topic or sad ending. I will not re-invest a couple of hours into something that leaves me feeling bad.

Good acting and good writing.
Right now, I watch Seinfeld, The Office, and How I Met Your Mother over and over. I used to watch Friends over and over, but it's gotten increasinly duller as I've gotten increasingly older. |

I agree that sit-coms have the most rewatchability. I can always watch Futurama, Venture Bros, 70s Show, and they are always funny. For dramas, I have to really like the series (Rome, Heroes S1, Firefly) to pruchase and rewatch the series. My rationale is that comedies tend to be episodic, so it is easy to watch just an episode or two, but most dramas have ongoing stories to where you have to watch the whole series to finish the story, which is time consuming.

I do agree with this, but if I really love a serialized TV show then I just watch it from episode 1 to the end, and then rewatch the series. But I wouldn't do this for every show that I enjoyed, just something that I really love, like 24.
