I always recommend the PS3.

I know several people personally and have heard of numerous people on the internet forums who only INTENDED to use the PS3 for Blu-ray. Once they got it, they couldn't believe how much they could actually use it for beyond just Blu-ray and gaming.

PS3 FOR THE WIN!!!

I would personally recommend a PS3. Not only is it an awesome BD player, it will also play other formats and you can hook up external hard drive (if the correct format there). For instance, I have all of The Hobbit production diaries downloaded and saved on my PS3 hard drive, and I actually watch them quite a bit. Its a fun little machine. Oh, and it also plays games.

The PS3 is a fantastic machine so cant go wrong with it. Like they say it only does everything! I had a 80gb PS3 but I never used it for gameing or internet ect so I went back to my standalone player and that is the Sony BDP S570.

I vote for the PS3 as well. And once you get one you'll quit saying you don't play games.

I love my PS3 for movies and games. I also have a wireless hard drive, so streaming shows to it is no problem at all.

My only gripe would be that I don't have a dongle for it, so to turn everything on requires the ps3 controller and my universal remote. Not a deal breaker in the slightest, just something worth mentioning

If you want the one that plays the most Blu-ray titles, get something other than the PS3.

The PS3 has played every Blu-ray movie I've thrown at it (I own over 200) and have rented probably 200 more.

There's also the Harmony adapter for the PS3. It's an added expense, but it does allow your Harmony remote to control your PS3.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-pl...atibility.html

Check which players will be all region free discs and which won't (the PS3 is one that won't).. Also, other players can be modified to be region free, whereas the PS3 can't.

One thing you often see in the UK/European sections etc. is "will this play on my (US) PS3" or even "this didn't play on my (US) PS3/Sony Player". If they had a different player they wouldn't have to worry (or as much - if it isn't modified to be region free).
