VAP will release the first chapter of the live-action adaption of Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys Manga [Trailers] on January 30, 2009.

Probably no English subtitles on this one

Got my copy today. The disc is locked to region A, sadly the English subtitles are displayed together with the Chinese ones...

I just received this disc, PQ/AQ are quite good, the subtitle issue it's not a big problem. I'm running to read the original manga just to know what is going to happen next

I look forward to seeing this. I'm reading the manga right now and enjoy it a lot! Now, hopefully the manga doesn't give me too many high expectations of the film...hehe...

It's a totally different genre than Battle Royale and as such, I believe it's hard to compare the two. Personally, I wasn't such a big fan of Battle Royale but I like 20 seiki shounen. It's really a matter of preference in certain genres.

Anyway, this movie is a good adaptation of the manga in my regards (which I haven't read in it's entirety yet, I must admit), but a lot will depend on how well the story continues in the second and third movie, in my opinion.

Just finished watching this film today and Loved It!

First off, the subtitle issue (English & Chinese together) is not a big deal. Do not let that stop you from watching this great movie.

Secondly, do we know if Hong Kong's Panasia Films will be releasing Chapter 2??? Chapter 2 is being released in Japan 8/28 (No English subtitles)

I just got through seeing HK version of Chapter 1. Did anyone think the black levels were off with all images appearing slightly brighter than they should be? I'm wondering if this has something to do with Japan using different NTSC black level (I know it shouldn't matter for HD). Zatoichi also had problems with the black level.

Can anyone who has seen the original theatrical release or Japanese Blu-ray comment on whether the blacks were inky black like those on most US Blu-rays?

This image from Asian BD.com is pretty representative of how blacks looked on my setup. The stage and background appear gray and not black as they should.

I got the Second Chapter of the 20th centurry Boys from Yesasia.com. Make sure that you get the Hong Kong version and not the Japanese. That is the one that has the English/Chinese subtitles. The Japanese version only has Japanese subtitles. I cannot wait until the final chapter comes out!

There is a roughly 2-3 month gap between the Japanese Blu-ray and the HK Blu-ray to prevent importation from HK->Japan. The price for the HK version would be lower than the JPN disc and would probably hurt sales as a result.

Part II Japan Release Date: 8-28-2009
Part II HK Release Date: 9-18-2009

I assume the 3rd movie will follow the same release window (about a month). My estimate was a bit off.
