Default Panny 110 noisy, suggest an alternative?

Well. I'm working with Amazon right now to swap out my 110 for another. Hopefully it will be a quieter drive, but if it's not.....can someone recommend a similar unit at around the same price? $110-$120?

Anyone have suggestions? I'm really not familiar with how all of the brands compare.

On another note, Amazon's service is great. Jumped on chat last night to ask about a replacement, they took care of the whole thing and it'll be here Sat.

That's weird. I emailed them about my problems with the Panny BDT110 and they agreed to send me a replacement but it was shipped via Deutsche Post DHL meaning it's not a courier delivery and it will take forever to arrive. My current player was shipped via UPS and was delivered within 24 hours. I got that by just selecting the free super saver delivery. Now, they said that because my original order had a free shipping they upgraded it to standard delivery. To me this feels like a downgrade.

I also used the super saver shipping which was really fast...now the replacement will already be here tomorrow.

I'll let you know how it sounds, but I think I might lean towards the 75 if the next 110 is loud.

Is there a reason to try and live with the 110 instead of the 75? No interest in 3D or streaming features. Just not sure if the AQ and PQ are equal between the two.

The PQ and AQ should be the same between both models, as there's nothing to indicate that the 75 is using a different UniPhier image processing chip.

In terms of features you'll be giving up by going with the DMP-BD75:
  • no 3D capability
  • no built-in WiFi, or support for WiFi dongles

I just read this review on Amazon:

However, I am writing this review to warn prospective buyers of a crippling flaw in the High Resolution Audio output designed into this player - this player ONLY puts out Dolby TrueHD audio in TWO (that's 2.0) channels for Linear PCM output. If you don't know what this means then you probably don't need to worry about it - BUT if you plan to use this player with a digital-capable A/V receiver which does not have the latest decoders (Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus), then this is a show-stopper; A/V receivers without the latest decoders can be fed Linear PCM audio over HDMI and work just fine - except that for some reason Panasonic chose to limit the output of Dolby Digital LPCM to two channels for this player, instead of the standard 5.1 or 7.1. So you are limited to either plain vanilla Dolby Digital 5.1, or two channel LPCM output for ALL Dolby formats. This is even sillier since DTS Master Audio is output in 5.1 or 7.1 LPCM, just fine. And it's confirmed in both the documentation and internet discussions.

Does this mean that I wouldn't be able to use PCM on the 75 and receive the correct HD sound? I'm not sure what the difference is between PCM and LPCM. I've been preferring to use PCM+PLIIZ on my receiver.

I have both and the BD75 is the same as the BDT110 minus 2D-3D conversion, 3D, WIFI, Skype and the NOISE. Not to mention it's much cheaper.

I also just found this footnote in the manual.

*2 The maximum possible number of Dolby sound is 2ch PCM.

Yes and yes. They are both going back in exchange for a 75. I do remember that I was usIng PCM so that I could use the dialogue enhancement feature if it seemed needed. That won't be an option with the Bitstream from the 75 , but that's OK with me.

Did you receive the 75 yet?

Or you can choose to buy another brand, since you're having such bad luck with Panasonic. That's what I would do! I've bought one of their first generation Blu-ray Players (DMP-BD30) and fortunately it's been performing very well since. I haven't had any problems with it at all!

If you have any problems with this blu-ray player, don't exchange it! Just get another brand because it seems like Panasonic's are not working out for you.

I like Panasonics for the PQ honestly. My 55 still works great, but is a little slow to load. It's moving to our bedroom to replace an Insignia that crapped out.
Seems like the 110's are known to have some drive noise after reading around. Not quite ready to abandon the whole brand.
