Sadly, I have to admit I didn't even know he was still alive.

Howard Zinn also died yesterday.

Bad day.

Sorry to hear that. We read Catcher in the Rye as I recall when I was a Freshman in High School (that was long long ago).

Catcher in the Rye is still one of my favorite books. I didn't like any of his other output, but Salinger showed he could write some pretty good stuff.

I didn't know the book was considered controversial. How?

Big fan of Catcher in the Rye--started my love affair with writing, actually, so definitely sad to see him go.

Good on you for acknowledging Zinn's passing.

A bad day indeed. But at 91 & 87, they each had a pretty good run.

I wonder why of all classic book adaptations not one single attempt has ever been made at Catcher in the Rye, even among the elite directors. How many versions of Wurthering Heights and of Mice and Men have we had, and yet no Catcher? RIP Salinger

Salinger didn't want a movie. Now that he's dead, maybe there will be one, but that'd be mean.

Catcher in the Rye is my favorite piece of American Literature ever. I identify so much with Holden Caulfield it's frightening.

"All morons hate it when you call them a moron." used to be my sig.

To Salinger..."SO LONG YOU BASTARD!" RIP

Now that he is dead, Hollywood will rush to make movies out of some of his work. He was against having movies made of his work, but his heirs will likely not have the same problems with making money.

Another great writer gone.

Most know 'Catcher In The Rye', but I'd like to recommend 'Nine Stories' to any here who likes his writing.

Cheers
Lex
