Hey guys I thought it was hilarious yesterday how much I got for trading in games at Game Stop. I think this was probably the worst I've ever received, and I even got 30% extra for trading in so many games and having a membership. I think they're giving even less than they used to.
I can detail this if I go find the receipt but I traded in a ton of games and got $170 (that includes an extra 30%). Split Second - PS3 Guitar Hero World Tour - PS3 Bayonetta - PS3 Need for Speed Undercover - PS3 Red Alert - PS3 Assassin's Creed 2 - PS3 Borderlands - PS3 Darksiders - PS3 God of War 3 - PS3 Excitbots Trick Racing - Wii Halo 3 ODST - 360 Hotel Dusk - DS Lego Batman/Pure - 360 Left 4 Dead 2 - 360 Mass Effect - 360 Mass Effect 2 - 360 Ninja Gaiden Sigma - PS3 Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 - PS3 Prince of Persia - PS3 SSX Blur - Wii Summer Sports Island Paradise - Wii Trace Memory - DS I think there were a few more DS games but I can't recall. Some games went for less than $1. Game Stop has Bioshock used listed for $25 and you can buy it new at Best Buy for $20. With an extra 30% I got back about 10% of what these games cost. And yes I knew I wouldn't get that much but in the past it seemed like it wasn't quite this bad. I think they're getting worse. At the end of the day, these games were just collecting dust so it's no big deal, but I was annoyed so I thought I'd share my latest experience. |

360 games get you less because they usually have an overstock of those. Another thing that kills you is if the title has any sequels out.
Judging by your list, I can guarantee you didn't get jack for Mass Effect and Guitar Hero: World Tour. Their reasoning is that no one wants Mass Effect anymore because Mass Effect 2 is out. Same logic for the Guitar Hero series. |

Well a lot of those games have had major price drops for new copies, so naturally the how much it's worth will go down with it. Plus a few of those games are kind of old now especially like Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1, Excitebots, and so on. Plus Guitar Hero: World Tour or any Guitar Hero and music game gets so many trade-ins that it drops in value drastically. Lego Batman/Pure came for free when purchasing a Xbox 360, so do have to be happy that they will take it all.
So sometimes popularity can be a bad thing if it becomes a game that gets traded in a lot, but at the same timenon-popular games(aka games I play) can also drop in value if it's not selling. If the game becomes rare though, then it can be worth a lot for awhile. Plus waiting a long time to trade them in, also will make the value worth less. It's pretty much supply and demand, and Gamestop gets a lot of supply from all of these trade-ins. My Gamestop for instance has so many used copies of games, that some of the duplicate used copies have to go in the backroom just because they can't fit in the drawers behind the counter. |

Yeah I understand that, but giving me $.62 for a DS game and then selling it for $15 seems a bit too je ne sais quoi. But, at the end of the day, it was just collecting dust.
Personally I think they charge too much for used games or they'd move them more. I bought Medal of Honor with my credits and they had a used version for $5 less. I can't understand why a used version, which they probably gave $25 for, is only $5 less. Maybe $10 and I would have taken it but $5? No. |

I'm not saying GS is bad. It's a great service for those who want convenience and I could have walked out with all my games if I wanted to hassle with selling them to individuals. I'm just saying the lower prices I got yesterday compared to how I felt after previous trade-ins have me rethinking that strategy. I think GS would be better off not detailing how much you got for each game on the receipt! I was better off not knowing. ![]() Last edited by Warjack Prime; 10-26-2010 at 02:48 PM. |

That is a TERRIBLE return on what you spent and the reason I stopped trading in games long ago. I understand the appeal of getting something, anything, for games collecting dust that probably will never get played again but I would rather they rot into dust then add even 1 cent to Lame Stops bottom line.

Fool me once; shame on you. Fool me twice; shame on you. Fool me three times; maybe I should start taking a longer look about this, but shame on you. Fool me four times and maybe shame on me? Fool me five times and, yup, the consensus is shame on me. Last edited by Warjack Prime; 10-26-2010 at 04:36 PM. |

I'd seriously be like "NO THANKS!" And walk out of the store with my games in hand. ALL of those games would have fetched more money here, ebay, or amazon. Heck, I would have bought 4 of them for the price gamestop gave you, plus $10, plus shipping! Last edited by jamclaur; 10-26-2010 at 05:32 PM. |

I have a better one. I once sold a game to GAME (probably the UK's version of Game Stop) for £0.01. That's right, 1 pence! The case it was in was worth more than that so I should have just binned the game and kept the case, but didn't think about that until afterwards.
![]() It was an xbox game so that could explain the minuscule value ![]() |

No man, I know exactly how you feel. I have nearly given up selling movies on Blu-ray, because I just got sick of the hassel, and by the time they accumulate on my shelf and I need to purge them, I end up nearly giving them away. Then I am reminded why I stopped selling/trading in the first place. I must have over 100 that I don't really want. I've thought about donating them to a charity, such as foundation associated with the hospital where I work, and they could resell them from their used book cart. I've always been too lazy to inquire.
You can try and sell/trade them here, but offer a really, really good price, and potential buyers still want to lowball you some more, and then don't even start about those who care more about cases and slipcovers than the media. I probably can't sell my games, because I so often end up using the enclosed user guides as coasters. |
